Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A with MediaTek Chipset Launched: Specs, Features and Price

Xiaomi went ahead and launched its budget-oriented Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A phones in China. The handsets are the successors of Redmi 5 (Review) that was announced in India earlier this year.

The major highlights of the new Redmi 6 line-up include full vision 18:9 aspect ratio display, MediaTek SoCs, and the latest Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 running on top of Android Oreo. If the phones are launched in India, they will be the first MediaTek-powered Xiaomi phones since 2014.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A Features

Xiaomi next-gen Redmi-series features dual-rear cameras. Its Redmi 6 comes with 12-megapixel+5-megapixel sensors on the rear, and 5-megapixel shooter on the front.

Apart from this, the Redmi 6 features a 5.45-inch HD+ (1440X720p) display and is powered by MediaTek Helio P22 chipset paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB storage space.

There is also Redmi 6A that features the same display but is powered by the latest MediaTek A22 quad-core chipset. The handset is a more affordable variant and comes equipped with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage. On the imaging front, the Redmi 6A sports a single 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie shooter on the front.

Both phones have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, AI-enabled face unlock, and AI voice assistant.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A Price and Availability

The Redmi 6A price is set at 599 yuan (roughly Rs 6,500) whereas its elder sibling, the Redmi 6, will retail in the country at 799 yuan (roughly Rs 8,500) for the base model and 999 yuan (roughly Rs 10,500). Both smartphones will go on sale on June 15th in Grey, Blue, Gold, and Rose Gold color options in China.

As for the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A India launch, there isn’t any official announcement yet.
