Xiaomi gave stock-Android a shot with the launch of Mi A1 – a global variant of Mi 5X – last year. And unsurprisingly, it worked pretty well for them. Today, the firm took the wraps off its successor, the Mi 6X or the alleged Mi A2 in China. The phone already flaunts an impressive spec-sheet, and Xiaomi pricing it aggressively takes the Mi 6X (Mi A2) to a whole new level.
However, matching the standards set by Xiaomi Mi 6X is HMD Global’s star performer Nokia 7 Plus. The mid-range stock Andriod phone seems to be doing everything right. So let’s put the two devices up against each other and find out which one offers better value for money.

Design and Build
The Mi 6X takes design cues from Xiaomi’s own Redmi Note 5 Pro but has a better full-metal unibody build instead of the metal-plastic combination. Having said that, it also sports some minor yet important changes like a curved back and inclusion of antenna bands on both top and bottom edge to make it look more appealing.
In the similar context, the Nokia 7 Plus does it even better by using a 6000-series Aluminum frame with ceramic paint finish on top and copper accents on the cutouts.

All the other aspects of the phones are pretty much the same. Both Nokia 7 Plus and 6X flaunt a full vision display, volume-rocker, and power button on the right edge, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
In design, the Nokia 7 Plus beats the Mi 6X hands down. Although Xiaomi did try to improve things here, Nokia’s design is distinctive and unique, and more appealing, in our personal opinion.
Display
The Nokia 7 Plus and Mi 6X sport a 6-inch and 5.99-inch display, respectively. Both are 18:9 panels with FHD+ (1080 X 2160 p) resolution and are protected by 2.5 curved glass. Since they have the same resolution there is nothing to compare between then on paper.

Performance and Software
Both the smartphones rock Snapdragon 660 SoC under its hood that is strong enough to handle even the high-end games along with day-to-day activities.
However, Xiaomi’s Mi 6X holds an edge here as its chipset is backed by multiple RAM and storage configurations: 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, 4GB RAM with 128GB storage and 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The Nokia 7 Plus, on the other hand, comes in only one variant – 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage.
As for the software, the Nokia 7 Plus runs on stock-Android Oreo out of the box whereas the Mi 6X comes with an Android Oreo-based MIUI 9.5, but that will be only in China. If its global version is rolled out as Mi A2, it will most likely run Google’s stock Android.
Camera and Battery
The dual-rear camera has become a need of the hour, and both Xiaomi and Nokia 7 Plus rope in this trend on their respective phones. The Mi 6X boasts a combination of 12-megapixel main camera sensor and 20-megapixel secondary sensor while the Nokia 7 Plus features a 12-megapixel+13-megapixel sensor with Zeiss optics on the back.
Both phones can shoot portrait images and quality pictures in good lighting conditions, but the Mi 6X has an upper hand with better imaging hardware, AI presence, and ability to shoot 4K videos. The selfie cameras on Mi 6X and Nokia 7 Plus include 20MP and 16MP sensors, respectively.
The battery is where Nokia 7 Plus takes a lead over Mi 6X. The former comes with 3,800mAh battery whereas the Mi 6X has a 3,010mAh battery. Both have fast charging support.
