WhatsApp Beta v2.23.13.6 rolling out for Android users via Google Play Store has a sweet surprise. Turns out Meta-owned WhatsApp is working on a new feature that would make WhatsApp VR compatible with Meta’s VR headsets.
Currently in a development stage, the folks at WABetaInfo got their eyes on a new feature that allows users to pair their Meta VR headset to the WhatsApp account. As you can see, the ‘Linked Devices’ option clearly shows ‘Meta Quest’ as one of the devices that were linked to the said WhatsApp account.
Many attempts have already been made to access WhatsApp on VR headsets and yet, users have failed. It remains a question exactly how Meta will go forward with the VR compatibility on WhatsApp maintaining the end-to-end encryption, information on compatibility and how the connection will be made to begin with.
The feature is in development and thus, not available even to the beta testers. It’s expected to arrive across beta users in the future updates although it’s quite exciting how Meta is jumpstarting WhatsApp’s VR compatibility with its headsets. It recently launched Meta Quest 3 VR headset against the super expensive Apple Vision Pro that will be available soon.
WhatsApp has been adding a lot of features right and left. We recently notified our users about WhatsApp’s screen-sharing feature. There’s the ability to send HD photos that is being tested. Similarly, WhatsApp extended the companion mode allowing users to access their WhatsApp account on multiple devices while maintaining end-to-end encryption among others.
