In 2020 Carl Pei founded his own company called 'Nothing'. Last year the company launched its first product called Nothing Ear (1) TWS. Following its success, Carl eyes the smartphone market and has announced Nothing Phone (1) that will hit the shelves in the summer of 2022.
Carl Pei was born in China but later, he moved to the U.S. and then lived in Sweden. He is a Swedish citizen.
Carl Pei joined the Stockholm School of Economics, Sweden in 2008, but left the course unfinished in order to work full-time in the Chinese smartphone industry.
He co-founded OnePlus in 2013 with Pete Lau and took the position as its Global Director. At that time, Carl Pei was just 24 years old.
Carl Pei started his career with Nokia back in 2010 when he was 20 years old. After a stint at Nokia, he created a fan website and got entry into Meizu. In 2011, he joined Oppo as International Market Manager where he worked with Pete Lau.
Carl Pei is often credited for OnePlus successful entry into the Indian market. OnePlus launched the OnePlus One with a sales target of 50,000 units but they end up selling 1 million units back in the day.
Carl Pei left OnePlus in 2020 at the age of just 30 and formed another new company in 2021 called Nothing. His first device was a very unique and transparent earbud, the Nothing Ear (1).
Carl Pei and his brand is working to launch a new smartphone called Nothing Phone (1) and Nothing OS.
