TRAI launches Channel Selector app for cable/DTH: Here’s how to use it

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a channel selector mobile application on June 25 that will let users select their desired TV channels and remove the unwilling ones while tracking their TV subscription costs. The new TRAI Channel Selector app is available on Google Play Store for Android users and on the Apple App Store for iPhone users.

TRAI had implemented the tariff order for broadcasting services a year back which enabled subscribers to opt only for the desired channels. But the process kind of complicated things and users are finding it difficult to select channels without a proper platform. That is how the authority came up with the idea of developing the Channel Selector app.

The new TRAI app fetches data from all the Distributed Platform Operators (DPO). The app is currently functional with the major cable & DTH operators including Tata Sky, DishTV, D2h, Airtel Digital TV, Hathway Digital, Siti Networks, InDigital, and Asianet. TRAI is also working to integrate the left service providers with the Channel Selector app.

How to use the Channel Selector app

The consumer will have to select their cable or DTH operator followed by the subscription ID or mobile number.

TRAI will send an OTP through the Channel Selector app to the registered mobile number of the subscriber for identification. If a consumer’s mobile number is not registered with his DTH or cable operator, then he will receive this OTP on his TV.

The consumer will be presented with the ongoing plan, channels, bouquet, and the current cost. The app will suggest an optimum configuration of bouquets based on desired channels. Users can now add desired channels to the list or can make a combination of channels, you can also get any of channels at the same price or at a lower rate.

Using the Channel Selector app, users will be able to remove the non-essential channels as well. Once the user is ready with the plan, he can go for the payment to keep the service working. The complete process is made easy for users to modify existing subscriptions and check real-time status along with helping them reduce their total monthly bill.
