TRAI Forces Reliance Jio To Pull Back Its ‘Summer Surprise Offer’: Everything You Need To Know

Reliance Jio, the fastest growing telecom operator in the country is withdrawing its recently announced ‘Summer Surprise’ offer based on TRAI’s recommendation. It means farewell to  3 months complimentary free services to those Prime users who are yet to recharge with Rs. 303 or more.

According to a press statement by Reliance Jio, “Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has advised Jio to withdraw the 3 months complimentary benefits of the Jio Summer Surprise.”

Jio has been under the constant scrutiny of TRAI as incumbent operators continues to cry foul as the free Jio offer impact has made a huge dent in their customer base and revenue. However, this is the first time that TRAI has asked Jio to stop offering free services.

Reliance Jio has agreed to comply with with the regulator’s advice and will be withdrawing this 3-month free service offers in a few days.

However, all those who have booked this offer will continue to enjoy free services. Jio in the statement said

all customers who have subscribed to JIO SUMMER SURPRISE offer prior to its discontinuation will remain eligible for the offer.

So what does it mean for people like you and me you may ask. Well, If you already bought Prime membership by paying Rs. 99 and done a 303 or more recharge on your Jio number then summer surprise continues for you till July. The recharge pack will be only be applicable from July 1 onward.

What Should I do now? Well, as per the statement and Jio homepage banner, you can still make the cut for the Jio Summer Suprise offer if you recharge it immediately. To be sure, visit Jio’s official website before you pay up.

Now one thing is clear, Reliance Jio freeride has come to a halt and going forward, users will have to pay to continue to enjoy its services.
