The virtual reality space has been getting a lot of attention ever since the launch of the Apple Vision Pro. One of the key features of the Apple Vision Pro was that it could mirror your Mac’s screen on the VR display. However, the Vision Pro is bulky, uncomfortable, and has a hefty price tag attached to it. The Spacetop G1 offers you a similar feature while being lightweight, comfortable, and slightly less pricey.
The Spacetop G1 is the latest advancement from former Magic Leap employees. It is a lightweight AR glass laptop that allows you to access the web on a large 100” VR screen and control it using a keyboard and a trackpad.

There is no actual screen, so you’ll have to always rely on the VR glasses to be able to use this product. However, if you ever feel the need to use an external display, you can do so using the two USB-C ports on the keyboard and touchpad case.
Unlike the hefty Apple Vision Pro, the AR glasses weigh a mere 85 grams. It should be noted that these glasses are connected to a battery inside the keyboard and touchpad case, which weighs 1.4 kg.
Under the hood, the Spacetop G1 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon QCS8550 chip paired with an Adreno 740 GPU, 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The G1 also has a 60 Wh battery that can give you up to 8 hours of battery life. Spacetop claims that the G1 can charge from 0% to 85% in 2 hours.

As for the AR glasses, each of these has a 1920 x 1080 90 Hz OLED display. The combined field of view is 50 degrees. Spacetop is also offering custom prescription lenses ranging from -8.00D to +6.00D. For audio, you can either use the two open-ear speakers on the AR glasses or the 6W speakers on the keyboard and touchpad case.
The Spacetop G1 supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and even 5G. To take advantage of the 5G connectivity, you can insert a nano-SIM card and/or activate an eSIM.
The Spacetop G1 runs on a proprietary operating system called SpaceOS, which is optimized for running web apps. Instead of paying developers to create apps specifically for their OS, the company utilizes existing web apps on SpaceOS. Essentially, SpaceOS functions as a web browser.
Sure, the Spacetop G1 does not offer the same flagship experience as the Apple Vision Pro, but it can be a great alternative for someone who just wants a VR laptop with a large screen. But the question arises: would you pay $1700 for a product that can *only* run web apps?
