The Japanese tech giant Sony launched a unique sound system called the Sony HT-AX7 in China. Unlike conventional speaker systems, the HT-AX7 features a central speaker unit and two removable speaker units, which can be placed anywhere in a room. Here’s everything we know about the new Sony speakers, their features, and their price.

Sony HT-AX7 Features

The Sony HT-AX7 is a portable sound system with detachable speakers. The image attached above shows that the main unit has two front speakers (powered by X-Balanced Speaker Units) and two passive radiators on the side. While the front speakers have a power consumption rating of approximately 45W, the rear speakers are rated at 3W. Speaking of the rear speakers, the unique selling point of this sound system is the removable rear speaker units.

Apparently, users can remove the rear speaker units and place them at a distance from the central unit, creating a stereo sound effect. The sound system uses 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology to envelop the user in surround sound by creating multiple phantom speakers. Further, when users place the three speaker units in the corners of their room (with the Sound Field effect off), the speakers analyze the room dimensions and create a perfect atmosphere with a high-quality, room-filling sound.

When the two removable speakers are placed apart, the Sony HT-AX7 turns stereo sound into three-dimensional surround sound by separating individual sound objects. Since the speakers are wireless, users won’t be inconvenienced while placing them. Additionally, the speakers can connect and switch between two Bluetooth-enabled devices. When users turn it on, it can also connect to the last connected device.

The Sony HT-AX7 lasts up to 30 hours on a single charge. While the central unit takes about four hours, the rear speakers take about four and a half hours to charge. Fortunately, users also get a quick charging feature that provides up to 150 minutes of playtime in 10 minutes. The front speaker weighs 3.09 lbs, and the rear speaker unit weighs 0.65 lbs each. On top of the central unit, users get a power indicator, volume buttons, and a playback controller.

Sony HT-AX7 Price

In China, the Sony HT-AX7 costs CNY 3,990, about $545 or Rs. 50,000. The new Sony sound system will be available in China from November. It should also arrive in the international market at the same time.
