TL; DR
- Qualcomm has officially teased the next Snapdragon flagship chipset and it will feature the Oryon CPU cores. It will be unveiled on October 22.
- DCS suggests that the new chipset would be dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition, although there is no official confirmation from Qualcomm on this yet.
- Early benchmarks suggest a 35% increase in single-core and 30% in multi-core performance over the 8 Gen 3, built on TSMC’s 3nm process.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, with its Oryon CPU, is set to launch on October 22 at the Snapdragon Summit, which will take place from October 21 to 24. The naming, which was originally expected to follow the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 convention, has now been apparently renamed as the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Qualcomm has released a teaser video on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, confirming the launch date for its new Oryon CPU mobile chip. The company calls it the next generation of the Snapdragon flagship mobile platform. They also showcased the chip inside a prototype smartphone, which looks like the OnePlus 13.

In another Weibo post, DCS, a renowned leaker, says that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has “officially been renamed to Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition.” However, there is no official mention of such a thing in Qualcomm’s Weibo post.
We believe this could be a translation error, but if it’s not, then we could see two versions of the upcoming Snapdragon flagship—the Snapdragon 8 Elite and the Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition.

Although we have no confirmation on the Snapdragon 8 Elite (or the Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition) just yet, we’re expecting it to be announced soon. The shift in naming was first hinted at by Digital Chat Station and in some promotional materials for the Xiaomi 15, OnePlus 13, and other devices.
According to early reports, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is expected to feature two performance cores clocked at 4.0 GHz and six efficiency cores running at 2.8 GHz. Benchmark leaks suggest a 35% improvement in single-core performance and a 30% boost in multi-core performance over 8 Gen 3. It will be built on TSMC’s 3nm process.
This chip will power multiple upcoming devices, such as the Xiaomi 15 series, OnePlus 13, and realme GT 7 Pro, among others. One of the main highlights of this new chip is the Oryon CPU, which seems poised to deliver significant performance improvements. What do you think about this rebranding strategy?
