A recent Weibo post gave considerable insight into Samsung’s plan to launch two breakthrough foldable handsets.

Internally codenamed as Project Valley, it was initially thought the Korean smartphone maker was coming up with one foldable phone, that was to be marketed under the name Galaxy X. But the recent leaks suggest that there are two phones in the fray, deemed to be out in the market as the Galaxy X1 and Galaxy X1 Plus.

The post also revealed the model numbers of the smartphones (SM-X9000 and SM-X9050) and the Android versions they would be running on.

According to the leaks, while the Galaxy X1 would run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, the Galaxy X1 Plus will have the updated version of Android Nougat.

Reports suggest that one of the phone would fold in half like a cosmic compact, while the other one would have a 5-inch display that could be expanded to 8-inch upon unfolding.

By the looks of it, both the smartphones will reportedly feature 4k display along with a 21:9 aspect ratio and would put to use various biometric forms, such as palms, fingers, and face.

Samsung has been toying with the idea of making a foldable smartphone since the past few years and it appears that the Galaxy X1 and Galaxy X1 Plus would start a new trend altogether, should they come out soon.

Rumors are rife that the phones would be unveiled in the third or fourth quarter of the year, although grapevine is mum about the other specifications or the price tag they would carry.
