It’s barely been a month (or two?) since Android Pie started rolling out to Pixel phones and we are already seeing evidence of Samsung testing it on its current flagship, the Galaxy S9+. The leading Android OEM has traditionally been slow with updates, but it looks like all the hard work Google has been putting in to ensure Android users don’t have to wait one whole year before tasting new OS is slowly reaping results.

And interestingly, it was the Exynos chipset powered variant (the one Samsung sells in India) that surfaced on GFX Bench. It’s no surprise that Galaxy S9/S9+ are first in line in the Samsung camp to get the Pie update. It’s still hard to estimate how long Samsung will take to push a stable update.

What’s special about Android 9 Pie?

The biggest highlight of the Android 9 Pie is its reliance on AI and machine learning. It’s the simple things that will supposedly add-up to enhance the experience in a meaningful way.

For instance, Adaptive Battery will ensure that most power routes to apps that you care about and are likely to use in the next few hours. Adaptive brightness will key in your individual preferences while deciding the brightness level based on Ambient conditions. App Actions will predict what you are about to do next and will show noticeable shortcuts for those particular actions in the app drawer. And so on.

Besides, Android Pie allows you to add time restriction on individual apps and the overall usage of your phone. It will support gesture-based navigation bar and even notch cut-outs.

Of course, for Samsung users, many of these enhancements will be buried deep in the OS.
