Samsung recently offered high refresh rate displays on the Galaxy S20 family for the very first time. All three models – the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra – boast of an AMOLED screen supporting 120Hz refresh rate. Though, the caveat here is that 120Hz is limited to full HD+ resolution.
Samsung hasn’t revealed the reason why it held back and didn’t give people an option for 2K or QHD+ resolution with 120Hz refresh rate. The general assumption is that Samsung had concerns about its chipset and GPU draining battery faster while handing that many pixels at a high refresh rate.

Ice Universe, a tipster famous for all Samsung related leaks, claims that Samsung has found an answer to this problem in a Dynamic Mode which could be rolled out through a future firmware update.
Reports suggest that in the new Dynamic Mode, the screen refresh rate will fall down to regular 60Hz when the battery temperature hits 42°C or if the battery percentage drops to a five percent reserve.

Also, while in Dynamic Mode, the phone will automatically cut down refresh rate to 60Hz in apps such as Google Maps and the stock camera where it won’t make any difference to user experience.
