Samsung has officially unveiled its Galaxy Note 7 in India, a week after its global launch. The new Note phablet takes inspiration from its hot-selling sibling, the Galaxy S7 Edge, but still manages to differentiate itself with a set of unique features. The Stylus-equipped flagship will go on sale in India on September 2, 2016. Those who preorder between 22nd and 30th August get a Gear 2.0 VR headset for subsidized price of 1,990 INR.

The Note 7 series specifications are more or less the same as the S7 series. It has the same Exynos 8890 chipset for the Indian market. It also comes with 4GB of RAM, similar camera optics, and IP68 water resistance.
The new Note comes with 64GB of Internal storage and a hybrid SIM slot where secondary SIM can be swapped with a microSD card (up to 256GB) to add more storage space. Samsung has added a bit more juice in its battery as it has bumped up from Note 5’s 3000mAh to 3,500mAh in the Note 7. Both the Note 7 and Note 7 Edge smartphones run on the latest Andriod 6.0 Marshmallow software with TouchWiz UI layered on top. The company claims to have used a “thermal spreader” water-cooling technology to prevent the phone from overheating.
Another similarity between the S7 Edge and Note 7 is dual curved quad HD Super AMOLED display. It comes with 5.7-inch display with 2560 x1440 pixel resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, which can withstand drops up to 1.6-meter height. In the optics section, it comes equipped with the same 12-megapixel primary camera as the Galaxy S7-family. With an aperture of f/1.7, the camera also features dual pixels technology, phase detection auto-focus, OIS (optical image stabilization) and 4K video recording capabilities. The phablet also sports a 5-megapxiel front facing camera with F/1.7 aperture and auto HDR support.

Samsung has improved its S-pen and added a handful of features such as quick text translation tool, magnifying loop, a tool to create GIFs from videos and a feature to create notes even on the lock screen. The S-Pen is also waterproof. Apart from the regular fingerprint sensor, Samsung has also added an iris scanner which something we saw in Microsoft Lumia 950 last year. It can be used to secure particular files and folders.
