Every new technology goes through several hurdles and setbacks and so will the foldable phones. Lately, some Samsung Galaxy Fold review units were found to have defective displays and the tech media brought it to general awareness. Apparently, the tech might not be as mature as we’d hoped it to be.

Since then, we have had rumors on Samsung delaying the China launch event. The South Korean giant has released an official statement affirming the same. The product launch events in China that were set to take place on April 24 and 26 are henceforth postponed.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Display

The causes of the Galaxy Fold Display Failure are attributed to the folding mechanism or hinge, which is the backbone of the tech. Well, they are called Foldables for a reason! Secondly, some of the reviewers had peeled off the protective layer on the screen, which they presumed to be a regular screen protector, that usually comes pre-installed on many smartphones.

Some of the units started showing flickering display, partial display and some even went full dead eventually. There have been reports on a tiny warning over this screen layer in the retail units. Still, the company could have sensed the need for further polishing of the tech.

Find the official statement down below:

We recently unveiled a completely new mobile category: a smartphone using multiple new technologies and materials to create a display that is flexible enough to fold. We are encouraged by the excitement around the Galaxy Fold.

While many reviewers shared with us the vast potential they see, some also showed us how the device needs further improvements that could ensure the best possible user experience.

To fully evaluate this feedback and run further internal tests, we have decided to delay the release of the Galaxy Fold. We plan to announce the release date in the coming weeks.

Initial findings from the inspection of reported issues on the display showed that they could be associated with impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge. There was also an instance where substances found inside the device affected the display performance.

We will take measures to strengthen the display protection. We will also enhance the guidance on care and use of the display including the protective layer so that our customers get the most out of their Galaxy Fold.

We value the trust our customers place in us and they are always our top priority. Samsung is committed to working closely with customers and partners to move the industry forward. We want to thank them for their patience and understanding.

Now, the company hasn’t revealed the next launch date but only promises a “release date in the coming weeks”. Samsung has to come up with some workaround for the protective screen as well as ensure the durability of the display.

The official release date was supposed to be on April 26 in a few major markets including the US, China, and South Korea. Reports also claim the company has delayed Galaxy Fold employee training.

The sudden turn of events could change the foldable race for the competition like Huawei. It’s Mate X (review), which is an outward folding phone could have its own pits to fill before the public release.
