Samsung today launched its second C-series phone, the Galaxy C7 Pro, in India priced at 27,990 INR. Unlike it’s elder sibling Galaxy C9 Pro (Review), this one is meant to cater to online market and you can buy Samsung C7 Pro in India from Amazon.in starting from April 11.
Apart from a series of mid-range Samsung phones available in the adjacent price range, it will be up against the OnePlus 3T (Review), whose momentum refuses to run out of steam, and also against the likes of Vivo V5 Plus that offer selfie-promise and is also available offline. And it does have a few traits that might tilt the scale in its favor. Let’s discuss.

Delightfully Slim Metal Unibody, Similar to the C9 Pro
To start with, it’s super slim measuring just 7mm around the waist and has a premium full metal design. This is further complemented by a 5.7-inch full HD AMOLED panel layered with 2.5D gorilla glass on top. Samsung is getting increasingly better at calibrating its super AMOLED screens and the best part is that the TouchWiz UI has provision to choose between varying color profiles suited to all tastes.
It looks about the same as the Galaxy C9 Pro, which is also one of the best big display phones around. The Galaxy C7 Pro is relatively more manageable and occupies about the same footprint as, say, a regular 5.5-inch display phone. The bezels are also quite narrow on all side and the portion below the display house a physical home button + fingerprint sensor.
Qualifies as a Selfie-centric phone too
Samsung has also added 16MP sensors on both front and rear, each with wide f/1.9 aperture optics, which, at the very least, should ensure that you think real long and hard before passing this up for one of those ‘selfie-phones’.
This is the same camera hardware that was present on the C9 pro, and most probably, the camera performance should be similar (which is great in good lighting and below par in low lighting, owing to the lack of Optical Image Stabilization).
Interestingly, Samsung is also using about the same camera hardware (both front and rear) on other mid-range options like Galaxy A7 (2017) and Galaxy A5 (2017) as well.
Snapdragon 626 and other hardware
On the inside, the C7 pro is powered by Snapdragon 626, which is the Pro version of the Snapdragon 625, just as the Snapdragon 653 is the Pro version of 652 and Snapdragon 821 is the Pro version of Snapdragon 820.
The advantages of 14nm based Snapdragon 626 over Snapdragon 625 include higher clock frequency for all 8 cores, Bluetooth 4.2 support (over Bluetooth 4.1 in 625), and slightly improved X9 LTE modem (that can make a difference to your Reliance Jio VoLTE call quality). Since this is a very power efficient chipset, the 3300mAH battery capacity sounds quite assuring.
The chipset is further paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, and that should be good enough for most of us. You can also add microSD card if you are content with one SIM card (Hybrid SIM slot).
Who is it for?
All said and done, The Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro is a fine mid-range phone with a delightfully slim dmetal unibody design and competent innards. Moreover, a reasonably attractive selfie shooter has also been thrown into the mix.
If you want a Samsung branded phone with a fairly large display, the C7 Pro is what you can buy for under 30K. If you willing to purchase from an offline store, you can also go for the Galaxy A7 (2017) that also has the same size display. If you fancy an even bigger screen, C9 Pro is what you should go for. And if you are particularly looking for a premium yet compact phone, the Galaxy A5 (2017) is a great option. (All of the 4 phones mentioned above have the same camera hardware).
And being an online exclusive device, the Galaxy C7 Pro is cheaper than all the other Samsung-branded midrange options mentioned above that entail about similar features and experience.

In the online realms, however, the real factor that will help it emerge beyond OnePlus 3T shadow is the Samsung branding, which also entails advantages like class leading after sales support. Since this is an online exclusive device, latest Android OS and Samsung Pay strike as key omissions which would have surely bolstered its case. Of course, at least one of the two can be added later via OTA update.
