Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 review: Design & Fit

Galaxy Buds 2 flaunts a minimalistic design and still looks different from other earbuds in the market. The earbuds I had were graphite in color and they had a glossy look similar to the Galaxy Buds Pro. Since one might want to wear them throughout the day Samsung has designed to keep user comfort in mind. They are the smallest and lightest earbuds I have used to date. Earbuds weigh only 5 grams each and the depth of the canal is moderate so it never hurt my ears. Since fit depends on one’s ears, 3 different sized ear tips help choose the perfect fit. In my case, medium ear tips worked.

Galaxy Buds 2 fit perfectly well and never wobbled out. They were comfortable for longer durations, They are just IPX2 water-resistant so I did not have to worry about them getting wet. Even while exercising I didn’t have to worry as they stayed well in place.

Buds 2 comes inside a white compact charging case, which looks amazing and weighs just 41 grams. It is a rounded square case with a magnetic fit and a USB Type-C port for charging. The variant I had was white with a dark grey accent color on the inside. There is an LED indicator on the front of the box to notify if it’s charging or not, which helped. Wireless charging is also available.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 review: Setup & Connectivity

Setting up of Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 is very easy. Just switch on the Bluetooth of your smartphone and search for available devices. If Buds are active and charged, they will be available to connect via Bluetooth. I just had to tap on their name and they connected to my smartphone via Bluetooth. With Samsung phone’s you will see a pop-up card to connect.

Music playback could be controlled by tapping on the touch surface of the earbuds. Touch controls are very responsive and I never had to use my hands to pause a song or increase the volume while working.

Through the app, I could switch off or reassign these tap functions which is convenient. There is a gaming mode for low latency while playing games, which helped reduce audio-video lag and gave better connectivity.

Galaxy Wearable app had to be installed on my phone to see battery levels, update firmware, tweak equalizer, control ANC modes, etc. There was a voice prompt for notifications too on Samsung Galaxy Buds 2.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 review: Audio Performance & Mics

The sound quality of the Galaxy Buds 2 is very good. Specs-wise Samsung has furnished the Buds 2 with a dual-driver array comprising a woofer and a tweeter that has been positioned inside each earpiece. The earbuds support SBC and AAC codecs and connect to devices Bluetooth 5.2

The sound quality of Buds 2 is similar to that of Buds 2 Pro as there is a great emphasis on treble than the lower end. Slam from the beats Believer by Imagine Dragons is very effective while the low notes in songs like Ranjha from Shershaah are effective too. The Buds 2 offer an exceptionally wide soundstage and stellar imaging so that I could not miss even one instrument sound while hearing a melody.

Mid-range sounds are terrific and soothing and my favorite singers sounded even more amazing while hearing them on Galaxy Buds 2. I could listen to podcasts on the pair without any hassles too.

Galaxy Buds 2 comes with a much-needed feature that is ANC and that too is a good one. Good in-ear fit also compliments its ANC feature as any noises of vehicles on the road outside my house were nullified when I attended a meeting or listened to music. Hear-through mode helped when I was alone at home and had to be aware of my surroundings while having buds in my ears. My voice was relayed clearly during audio calls and I could hear the voice of the person on the other hand too. The mic quality of Buds 2 is top-notch.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 review: Battery & Charging

While the company claims a battery life of up to 5 hours on one full charge, my battery lasted around 4 hours for continuous music playback and ANC turned on. With a charging case, I could get about 15 hours of battery life. When ANC was turned off, the capacity increased by about half an hour for the buds. The charging speed is quick, so that helped. The 5-minute charge provided me with an hour of listening time, which is great.

Review Verdict: Should you buy Samsung Galaxy Buds 2?

Expert rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 are a very substantial upgrade over the Samsung Galaxy Buds that came in 2019. They offer a better sound quality, better ANC, and are a good fit for my ears. Buds are lighter and smaller, so you don’t even feel you are wearing them. They were not even visible to people around me if I had my hair down. Active ANC helped me attend conference calls from anywhere. The Galaxy Buds 2 are a good option to be bought under 15k if you want premium looks, high-end performance, and excellent ANC.
