Samsung and South Korean SK Telecom has announced Galaxy A Quantum. This is dubbed as the world’s first phone with quantum security tech. This generates random security keys on an intermittent basis, thus making the device more or less un-hackable.

At least that’s what the duo claims.

Let’s have a brief look at the tech itself followed by the device specs and details.

Samsung Galaxy A Quantum: What’s the tech?

As you may already know, encryption means converting the device data into long random, scrambled numbers called keys. While they are not easily readable or breakable, their only kryptonite is quantum computers. Thus standard methods aren’t considered safe.

Enter Quantum Encryption Technology. The tech is a rigmarole involving lots of physics properties and complex mathematics. Simply put, the message can’t be read by anyone, but the intended recipient.

Samsung A Quantum employs a Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chipset. This chip measures 2.5mm by 2.5mm in size and includes an LED and CMOS image sensor. This LED and CMOS sensor communicates through light and creates random unpredictable keys.

Quantum encryption will be used to secure services such as mobile payments.

Besides the chip and a quirky name, the phone is a rebranded Galaxy A71 (review) 5G powered by Exynos 980 SoC. It is made available in South Korea at a price of KRW 649,000 ($530/€490). It’ill be up for pre-booking from May 15, followed by sale on May 22.
