The next-generation 5G ready smartphones are coming thick and fast. As per a report by Strategy Analytics, Samsung Mobiles is currently leads in terms of 5G phone market share, and to further consolidate its position, Samsung has announced Exynos 880 chipset with an integrated 5G modem in the lower mid-range segment. This is the third 5G-integrated chipset from Samsung following the Exynos 980 and Exynos 990 chipsets.
The new 5G chipset from Samsung is based on 8nm fabrication process and aims to offer fifth-generation connectivity at an affordable price. The Exynos 880 supports 5G (SA/NSA) with a maximum downlink and uplink of 2.55Gbps and 1.28Gbps respectively. There’s also support for E-UTRA-NR Dual Connectivity which uses both 5G and 4G together to deliver up to 3.55Gbps downlink and 1.38Gbps uplink speeds. Samsung claims it can also provide up to 1Gbps downlink on the LTE network.
The Exynos 880 is similar to the Exynos 980. It also has the CPU layout of two Cortex-A77 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 power-efficient cores. It also includes Mali-G76 MP5 GPU and an integrated NPU for machine learning.
