The telecom war is ongoing with full steam as all the major players are tweaking their plans to lure more users. Reliance Jio has brought back its popular Rs. 149 and Rs. 98 prepaid plans. On the other hand, both Vodafone Idea, as well as Airtel, has removed the FUP capping. So, if you’re thinking of recharging your mobile connections, it may be best to look over the new changes.

Reliance Jio Rs. 149 & Rs. 98 Plans

Jio Rs 149 plan offers 1GB/day, 100 SMS/day, unlimited calls (FUP of 300 minutes for off-net calls). This has 24 days of validity only.

In contrast, Airtel’s 1GB/day for 28 days plan costs Rs. 219 while Vodafone Idea’s 1.5GB/day for 28 days plan comes at Rs. 249. Notably, both of them have no FUP capping, which means the user can make unlimited calls to any network. If you’re wondering, yes, both of them includes 100 SMS/day.

So, while Jio has the cheapest offer of the three, there is the FUP ceiling. If you cross that limit, you’ll be charged 6p/min on all Off-net calls that you make to other networks.

Additionally, Jio has reinstated the Rs. 98 plan that covers 2GB for 28 days (not per-day basis), 300 SMS and unlimited voice (you must buy IUC talk time plans for making calls to other networks).

A plan from Vodafone Idea and Airtel with similar benefits will cost you Rs 149 and Rs 148 respectively.

Airtel has not only made its prevailing “unlimited” plans truly unlimited by removing the FUP capping, but it has also introduced 3 new plans at Rs. 219, Rs. 399 and Rs. 449.

Following the suit, Vodafone Idea also announced their Truly unlimited plans.

So, now the FUP off-net minutes and 6p/min charge won’t be applicable to Vodafone Idea and Airtel Unlimited plans.

We are left with Jio which still sticks to the charges. But to its defense, a company spokesperson said, “Entitlement for off-net calls in Jio’s “All in One Plans” is more than 5 times of what an average customer uses as per industry data and consequently, an average Jio customer is unlikely to have to ever pay for off-net calls. We reiterate that Jio plans offer up to 25% higher value than comparable plans of other operators.”
