Reliance’s JioFiber broadband service is now officially available in India. It features a high-speed internet over fiber network with speeds ranging from 30Mbps to 1Gbps.

Jio has significantly cut prices to challenge incumbent players. It’s now offering JioFiber and JioTV+ in a bundled package with truly unlimited data plans (No FUP at all!) with a few plans including subscriptions for up to 12 OTT apps at reasonable prices.

We will try and answer JioFiber related questions that might be bugging you. Before you hop on board, here are a few fine print details you should know.

All plans are truly unlimited and you need not bother with FUP limits. You can do prepaid recharges to subscribe to these plans using MyJio app or via other apps using a fixed voice number.

JioFiber Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

 
Question: How much will you have to pay for the JioFiber connection with and without Jio TV+ bundle?
You will have to pay a security of Rs. 1500 for JioFiber and Rs. 1000 for the JioTV+ streaming box that connects to the HDMI port on your TV. So a total of Rs. 2500 for both services. You may opt-out of JioTV+ and get fiber and landline connection for Rs. 1500
 
If you terminate the connection at the end of the one month free trial period, the entire security amount will be refunded. If you put in a disconnection request sometime later, an INR 1000 installation charge will be deducted from the security deposit. 
 
Question: Can I return and get a refund for the JioTV+ streaming device after the trial period?
No. If you have paid 2500 for both JioTV+ and JioFiber, you will get your refund only after the complete disconnection of JioFiber services. If after the first month, you decide not to continue with JioFiber but want to discontinue JioTV+, there is no option to return the streaming box or get a refund for Rs. 1000 security deposit separately. 
 
Question: Can I opt for any 1-month free trial plan and downgrade later? What plans can I choose for the 30-day free trial?
In the first month free trial, all users will get INR 999 plan with 150Mbps speeds – you don’ get a choice. At the end of the 30 day trial period (or during the trial period), users can recharge for whatever plan they choose. 
 
Question: Do I have to do prepaid recharge for JioFiber plans or I have to pay monthly rental with GST?
You have to do prepaid recharges, but GST is not included in the advertised plans. You will have to pay the final price after GST as indicated in the table above. 
 
Question: JioFiber recharge cycle is of 28 days or 30 days?
JioFiber recharge cycle is of 30 days. 
 
Question: Does JioFiber come with a landline or fixed-line service?
Yes. Jio offers a fixed voice number that you may use via connecting a landline phone or even from your mobile phone using the JioCall app (slick!). Calling from the fixed voice number is free throughout India.
 
Question: What are ISD Calling rates for JioFiber? 
Reliance claims the ISD calling tariffs would be 1/5th to 1/10th of industry rates. Further, there is an unlimited US/Canada pack at ₹500 per month.
 
Question: What OTT apps are available with different plans?
Netflix is the differentiator between different plans. The Netflix premium subscription 
with 4K HDR support is only offered with the most expensive Platinum plan. 
 
  • Rs. 999 plan – Amazon Prime Videos, Disney+Hotstar VIP, Sony LIV, Zee5, Sunnxt, Voot, AltBalaji, HOICHOI, Shemaroome, Lionsgate Play, JioCinema, and JioSaavn
  • Rs. 1499 Plan – all of the above + Netflix(Basic)
  • Rs. 2499 Plan – All apps with 999 Plan + Netflix (Standard)

Question: Is Disney+Hotstar premium subscription included in any JioFiber plan?

No. 

Question: What all TV channels and OTT platforms one get with jio fiber Rs 999 plan?

In Rs. 999 Plans you get Amazon Prime Videos, Disney+Hotstar VIP, Sony LIV, Zee5, Sunnxt, Voot, AltBalaji, HOICHOI, Shemaroome, Lionsgate Play, JioCinema, and JioSaav OTT platform.

Question: Can I pay JioFiber bill using other wallets like Paytm and Amazon pay?

No. For now you can recharge JioFiber plans only via MyJio app. 

Question: How do I get cashback on JioFiber recharge?

Since you can only recharge via MyJio app, cashback options are limited. For now, you can get Rs. 50 off per month for a year (total 600 cashback) by enabling AutoPay (credit card and UPI) in JioPay

Question: Can I use JioFiber+ OTT app subscriptions on my phone?

No. All OTT apps can be accessed only on the TV via JioTV+ streaming Set-top box. 

Question: Can I download other apps in the JioTV+ set-top box?

No. You can not. 

Question: What’s the difference between Fiber Optic Internet vs Regular ADSL Broadband?

The traditional broadband moves data over the copper wire which losses out packets over a greater distance. The Fiber Optic as the name suggests plastic or glass cables which offer faster data transfer speeds.

Question: How long does it take for the JioFiber connection installation?

After you have applied for the connection, it can take from 1 to 3 days for installation depending on the demand in your area. 

Question: Is there any Throttling with JioFiber broadband speeds?

No, new JioFiber Plans are truly unlimited. You will get the same speed throughout the 30 days cycle. 

Question: What are the features of the Jio Fiber bundled Set-Top-Box (STB)?
 

You get to enjoy –

  • Hybrid reality gaming, 4K UHD TV shows, Movies, and OTT content.
  • Video-conferencing service on TV sets by attaching a camera to the STB.

How to register or apply for the Jio Fiber?

Getting a Jio Fiber connection is fairly easy process. It’s a completely online process a so following these simples steps should help you get your Jio Fiber connection.

  1. Visit Jio Website

    Go to Jio Fiber Registration Website

  2. Provide Address

    Enter the address where you wish to get plans to get Jio Fiber connection.

  3. Submit Details

    Enter the Full name, mobile number, and email id. Once entered, click on ‘Generate OTP’.

  4. Provide OTP

    Check your provided mobile number you must have received it from Jio. Enter the provided OTP number to verify yourself.

  5. Voila!

    Now, the company will check the feasibility in your locality followed by a Reliance Jio executive will connect with you to verify all the information and share other details. Once formalities are done a JioFiber connection will be installed at your home or office.
