Redmi K40 with Snapdragon 888 SoC teased; GM reveals price details month before launch

Redmi K40 will go official next month in China. The upcoming flagship phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 SoC as confirmed by Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing. While revealing premium chipset has become a common norm among brands, revealing price details before unusual. Mr. Weibing on his Weibo post also revealed Redmi K40 price details. According to him, Redmi K40 series will start from CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 34,000).

Not everything is known about the Redmi K40 as the company is yet to reveal design and specifications of the cost-effective flagship. The phone will include a flat display which is claimed to be “the most expensive flat screen” in a smartphone. However, we still don’t know whether it will an AMOLED or LCD panel. It is likely to be a higher refresh rate screen. The phone is likely to come with UFS 2.2 storage and LPDDR4X RAM.

As for design, the Redmi K40 series is not likely to feature a 3D curved design similar to the Mi 11. It is to ship with an above 4000mAh battery bundled with 33w wired fast charging as suggested by some leaks.

There have been leaks suggesting a Redmi K40 Pro in the offering. Recently a leaked image of a Redmi K40 Pro model popped up online suggesting a quad-camera setup at the back and a selfie camera punched inside display cutout. Redmi is likely to continue with a 3.5mm headphone jack alongside supporting a USB Type-C port.
