With the K20 series, Redmi stood out from the crowd of mid-range offerings at the time. Well, a year has passed and the fans expect nothing less this time. We already have clues of a few things about the Redmi K30. Add to this, the new findings by the folks at XDA. They have unearthed a 120Hz display, side-mounted fingerprint reader, and Sony IMX686 camera on an upcoming phone, possibly Redmi K30.

An XDA Member named kacskrz is credited for the discovery of Phoenix, an oncoming Xiaomi handset. While digging through the MIUI 11 code, he came across the phone with the aforementioned features.

This obviously makes things more luring. However, they clearly state that the inference is by no means certain. Having said that, let’s run through their findings.

Redmi K30 aka Phoenix?

Starting off with the only dots connecting the two phones is their side-mounting biometric reader.  This is an implementation we have already seen in other phones such as Samsung Galaxy S10e (review).

Furthermore, the codebase also includes a graphic showcasing the silhouette of a phone with a dual punch-hole camera at the front. And we already know that the K30 will be adopting a similar front camera design like the Samsung Galaxy S10+ (review).

Decompiling the code has disclosed the higher 120Hz refresh rate support on Phoenix. Apparently, the codes reveal an option to switch between 60Hz and 120Hz.

Interestingly enough, they have also discovered phoenix_imx686 mentioned in the Qualcomm Camera Library. IMX686 is the upcoming camera sensor set to launch as a sequel to Sony IMX586, a leading sensor for a bulk of the mid-range smartphones this year. It seems that Redmi K30 will be joining the IMX686 club.
