Xiaomi Redmi 8A with 5,000 mAH battery launched in India starting at Rs. 6499

Its been not even a year since the Redmi 7A launched and here we have its sequel – the Redmi 8A. It comes with a humble price tag and equally modest hardware. The 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support is its underlining feature. The USB Type-C socket is another highlight.

The brand’s social media channels were actively teasing the phone as “Dumdaar”. Now that the phone’s unveiled, let’s strip down its spec sheet.

The Redmi 8A comes with a 6.21-inch HD+ (1520×720) TFT display with a dotnotch up top. This is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. You get facial recognition to unlock the device. Within the notch lies an 8MP selfie snapper. There is no capacitive fingerprint reader solution on the phone.

As for the back, a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor is used. Both front and back cameras are backed by AI enhancement. The phone sports an Aura Wave Grip design and is P2i graded splash-proof. It will be available in 3 colors- Sunset Red, Ocean Blue, and Midnight Black.

To the bottom, you have a USB Type-C port, which is nice to have at this price range. This supports upto an 18W fast charger to juice the massive 5000mAh battery inside. But, all you get out of the box is a 10W charger. Xiaomi has included FM radio. So, you could enjoy the music wirelessly or using a headphone. Yes, there is a 3.5mm jack at the bottom.

Redmi 8A sticks to the Snapdragon 439 chipset. However, you get an additional 3GB RAM variant and this time around, there is a solo 32GB onboard storage option. This could be further expanded upto 256GB using a micro-SD card.

Although MIUI 11 has launched, this one ship with the old Android 9 based MIUI 10.

Redmi 8A with 2GB RAM + 32GB storage variant starts at Rs 6,499, while the bigger 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage model is priced at Rs 6,999. It will be out on the sale from 29 September via Mi.com and Flipkart. It will be soon available via offline outlets too.
