Redmi 5A Look and Feel

Question: How is the Redmi 5A design?

Answer: The Redmi 5A is a compact phone that’s easy to manage. It’s not vastly different from the Redmi 4A that it succeeds, but a few iterative refinements ensure that it looks more premium.

For instance, there is 2.5D glass on the front and the back has a metal finish (the material used is plastic, though). The speaker is still present on the rear, but thanks to the tapered edges, the audio doesn’t get muffled when the phone is lying on its back.

The IR blaster and Audio jack are present up top, the regular micro USB port is at the bottom, and the hard buttons on the right edge are easily accessible. There is no fingerprint sensor, though.

Question: How is the Redmi 5A build quality?

Answer: The phone feels solid and well built.

Question: Is Redmi 5A Water resistant?

Answer: No, it’s not.

Question: Does the Redmi 5A comes with back cover and screen protector?

Answer: No. Only the charging cable and charger is present in the box.

Question: Are Redmi 5A Capacitive buttons backlit?

Answer: No. They are not. The buttons respond with haptic feedback (vibration), though.

Question: How is the Redmi 5A display?

Answer: The display quality has improved compared to Redmi 4A. In its class, the Redmi 5A display is quite good in terms of quality.

Question: Does Redmi 5A have the option to switch between color modes?

Answer – Yes. The MIUI 9 has efficient color temperature presets (cold, warm, standard) and you can also toggle between Standard and

Question: Does the Redmi 5A have a Bluelight filter?

Answer: Yes, the phone has a ‘Reading Mode’ that you can access from Settings>> Display.

Answer: Yes, it does. Auto-brightness, however, doesn’t work very fast.

Question: Does the Redmi 5A display has Gorilla glass protection?

Answer: No.

Redmi 5A Performance and Storage

Question: How much internal storage space is free on Redmi 5A?

Answer: Out of 16GB, around 10.4GB storage is available at the user end.

Question: Does Redmi 5A have a separate microSD card slot?

Answer: No. It doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor.

Question: How is the day-to-day or general performance? How is gaming performance of Redmi 5A?

Answer: The Redmi 4A isn’t a very fast phone. The phone did stutter a couple of times when we had multiple apps open in the background and we did encounter an App crash, but overall, the performance isn’t laggy.

Overall, the performance is good enough for the price and basic users should be able to make ends meet. We’d still recommend you to go for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage model if you can extend your budget.

This isn’t a phone meant for high-end gaming, but surprisingly heavy games that we tried were playable.

Question: Does Redmi 5A have heating issues?

Answer: No it doesn’t. The phone gets hot while charging, but other than that it runs cool.

Redmi 5A Benchmark Scores

Benchmark Standard Score
Antutu 35,917
PC Mark 3330
Geekbench single core, multi-core 645, 1809
3D Mark slingshot 55

 Redmi 5A Camera

Question: How is the Redmi 5A camera quality?

Answer: We didn’t go into this review expecting much. At this price point, it won’t be fair to demand much in terms of camera performance.

In good lighting, you can capture workable shots from the front and rear cameras, but if you zoom in or examine them on a bigger screen you will notice poor details and abundant noise.

Question: How is the selfie camera on Redmi 5A?

Answer: The selfie camera is an average performer. Images clicked in good lighting look good on phone’s screen. Other than that, the experience is nothing to write home about.

Question: Can the Redmi 5A shoot Full HD videos?

Answer: Yes. It can.

Question: Can you record slow-motion videos on Redmi 5A?

Answer: No. There is an option for time lapse videos, though.

If you are limited by a budget, the Redmi 5A is as good as it gets, but if you are willing to spend more, you should consider exchange and other deals on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 or Redmi 4 instead.
