The US-based company RED – known for its digital cinematography and photography cameras – has finally revealed the specs of its Hydrogen One phone. Last year, the firm went public with the smartphone and even put-up the device for pre-orders while sharing only little-to-no information. (Read in Hindi)

But now the company has come up with the full specifications of its debut phone on the RED User forum post. There, the RED founder and its CEO Jim Jannard shared specs and features of Hydrogen One and even announced its availability details.

Key RED Hydrogen One Highlights

  • 5.7-inch (16:9) QHD (2K) display with a regular 2D mode and a 4-View (4V) holographic mode
  • Comes in Titanium and Aluminum body options with scallop-sides.
  • Stackable modules (you can use more than one simultaneously)
  • Powered by Snapdragon 835x SoC.
  • massive 4500mAh battery.

RED Hydrogen One Features

The RED Hydrogen One phone features a 5.7-inch QHD (2560×1440 pixel) display. The forum stated that the screen will have two modes: a regular 2D mode and a 4-View (4V) holographic mode which can displays “better than 3D image” with no glasses.

The RED Hydrogen One is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835X system-on-chip – not sure what the “X” stands for. The phone is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone port, USB Type-C port, and a hybrid dual-SIM slot.

The firm says that the handset weighs 2 ounces more than the normal 5.7″ phones, but that can be attributed to its holistic design, build material, and massive 4,500mAh battery it houses.

The RED takes design cues for its Hydrogen One phone from its cameras. The phone has scallop-sides, which make it slightly easier to hold and fish out of pocket. Additionally, the phone has modular capabilities. You can transmit power and data between the (Moto Mod like) modules using the magnetic pins present on the rear panel.

RED has planned a battery and a cinema camera module for its Hydrogen One as well. However, unlike Moto, Red Mods will be “stackable” allowing for use of more than one module at a time.

RED Hydrogen One Carrier Support and Release Date

As for the pricing, the Hydrogen One is expected to be priced at $1,195 (roughly to 76,990 INR) when it launches later this year. The phone’s carrier-unlocked variant will ship this summer in the US, before the carrier-locked version.

Mr. Jannard says that carrier support for the RED Hydrogen One is “unprecedented” and didn’t reveal many details about it yet.
