What Realme has done in the smartphone segment is being smartly replicated by the company in its home segment products too, the latest being Realme TechLife Handheld Cordless Vacuum Cleaner. Although handheld vacuum cleaners aren’t as popular as robotic vacuum cleaners, they are very useful too for those who want to clean their house themselves.

There are many options from companies like Eureka Forbes to Dyson, but these are not within everyone’s budget. Realme hopes to make up for this with its newly launched Handheld cordless vacuum cleaner. It is a light, easy to carry around device that can pick most of the dust particles around the house. But Should you buy it? Let’s find out:

Design & Features

The design of the Realme Handheld Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is a mixture of originality and inspiration from competitions. It is a gun-shaped device with various attachments. The handle is at the back, with a suction motor and dustbin in front of it. Controls are on the upper side and it has a slider switch that lets me choose between different power modes.

Battery level is indicated by the lights on the top and the dustbin can be taken out for better cleaning by pressing a button on the side. 5 LED indicators light up blue when the device is on and give a rough estimation of the battery remaining too. There is a simple mechanical button at the bottom that can open the lid of the dustbin to empty it within seconds. The button was easy to press but the problem was that it was too easy to press. I am saying this because once I accidentally pressed it and the entire dust emptied on my clean floor, doubling my work.

The fittings and vacuum heads that are given are attached at the end of the pipe and are meant for specific cleaning tasks. The charging socket is near the bottom and the charger is included within the box that can be attached directly or used with wall mounting for easy charging. I preferred it to be wall-mounted so that there’s nothing kept on the floor of my house.

It weighs around 2.4kg which was very light for me and thus it became very comfortable to use. The portable device can fit anywhere without any hassle and a flat underbody allows it to be kept on a table or shelf. The handle placing is perfect and the dustbin has a good capacity. The suction power is 9.5KPa and the motor is strong with 10,500rpm. HEPA filters, which are quite common these days are also present and the device is easy to maintain and clean as some components can be taken out and washed with water. Both HEPA filter and Dust container are washable and since these two parts get the most dust, it is better to keep them as clean as possible.

Fittings / Attachments

The Realme Handheld Cordless Device comes with just 4 basic attachments. These are an extension to pipe to easily reach the floor as well as hard-to-reach heights, a 2-in-1 brush fitting, a crevice tool for narrow areas, and an auto-rotating roller brush. This worked for me as I am not fond of too many attachments, they get confusing for me.

The 2-in-1 brush has bristles which helped me clean tables and countertops easily. The kitchen countertop cleaning was good as it removed all the ants or cockroaches which could have soiled the food. You can remove this brush and use a standard opening too. Cleaning shelves, doormats, and fans became convenient too.

The crevice tool was specifically important for me as my house has areas that are too narrow to be cleaned by broad-faced vacuuming. Small gaps between a sofa or car seats were adequately cleaned and corners of the house sparkled too.

The roller brush is the most important attachment as it is used for cleaning floors. The soft roller spins rapidly to gather dirt and is flexible enough to move the brush head quickly across the entire floor. It spins at 2200rpm and can be opened for cleaning by water when it gets clogged. The small wheels in the brush make its movement smooth and it is easier to collect a large amount of dust in a short period.

All the fittings of the vacuum cleaner could be directly attached to the cleaner or onto the extension pipe, which itself attaches to the main unit. Extension pipe was needed when I had to remove cobwebs from the ceiling or clean the balcony wall from a height.

There is a light at the front of the cleaner, which is something new and good as it lit up the dark areas while cleaning, for eg under the bed or sofa.

Performance

There is a difference between the performance of Realme’s vacuum cleaner and other expensive vacuum cleaners in the market. The cleaning capabilities of the device are decent as per the price, but it won’t be able to compete with other high-end vacuum cleaners when it comes to the overall experience. The cleaner comes with a 140W motor with 10,500rpm that gives a suction power of 9.5KPa.

Realme’s cordless vacuum cleaner is a device that is good for floor cleaning and cleaning sofas and countertops. It lifts dust and small particles of garbage easily. Scraps of paper, dry food spills, choco chips, bread crumbs, etc. were easily cleaned by it. Car cleaning was very efficient with this device. The only issue I have with the vacuum cleaner is that I have run over the same area a few times to get a satisfactory cleaning.

The problem arises when the food spill is large or pieces of garbage are heavy or large. Once I tried cleaning a large number of dry leaves but they got stuck in the brush and I had to open it, remove the leaves to make it functional again. So, for larger spills or pieces, I used my brooms and brushes to clean up.

Everyday cleaning is above average with this Realme handheld cordless vacuum cleaner, but if you have to clean a place that is full of dirt and dust for a long time, then the device won’t be effective.

All the dirt collected goes into a dustbin and could be cleaned by a brush that comes in the box. I used damp cloth too and I found it better than cleaning with the given brush. To open the container, toggle the slide upward. An important tip for cleaning- Open the dustbin at a place where overhead fans are not on otherwise dust particles will fly all around. The filter inside the container is slightly tough to clean.

The vacuum cleaner comes with 2 power modes- Normal and High. The Normal Mode, as the name suggests is very average in terms of suction power and can lift only light dust off the floor, the High mode is more effective. I did my normal cleaning too with high mode switched on. As for the sound, the normal mode is loud but it won’t bother you. However, the High Mode, is much louder and can become slightly irritating over extended use.

Battery

The device is powered by a 2200mAh battery and in my experience, it ran for around 45 minutes in Normal power mode. In High Power Mode, the device ran for 30 minutes on a single charge. Though you might feel, this is very little but a compact house can be cleaned up well on High Power Mode with a single charge. As my house is a little larger, the battery was enough for certain quick jobs and also if I had to clean a particular room again. The battery took around 3.5 hours to get fully recharged.

Verdict

Realme TechLife Handheld Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is surely a good innovation meant for those who want to own cordless vacuum cleaners under the 8k range. It has a good design and attachments are limited which is good. It is not as powerful as some people would want, but then this is how much you can get at this cost.

It is capable of everyday cleaning, has a decent battery life, and can be used anywhere in the house. It is portable, lightweight, easy to maintain, and carry around too. So, if you are looking for a portable vacuum cleaner in the less than 8000 INR range, Realme TechLife Handheld Cordless Vacuum Cleaner can be a smart buy for you.
