Xiaomi’s sub-brand Poco had launched its first device Poco F1 earlier this year and this phone has created huge ripples in the market owing to its aggressive pricing.

However, eventually many issues related to Poco F1 surfaced online and one of the more prominent omissions was the Widevine L1 certification which meant that users could not stream HD videos on Netflix or Amazon Prime using Poco F1.

Xiaomi Poco F1 Review

Xiaomi has taken the feedback of users seriously and is working on it to improve the user experience. According to a news thread on MIUI forum, they have announced that they are currently working with Google and Qualcomm to develop the feature and they are expected to roll out the Beta version in Q4.

Don’t get too excited, though

This news should come as a respite to a lot of users, but we’d still recommend you to hold your horses. There is no information regarding whether the update will be provided ‘over the air’ (OTA) or through official offline sites of Poco.

Earlier this year, OnePlus had also provided an option for its OnePlus 5 and 5T users to update their phones to the Widevine L1 certification. OnePlus categorically mentioned that upgrading to Widevine L1 required your phone being physically hooked to a secure PC. So, most likely upgrading your phone will require a visit to a service center or even parting with it for a few days.

Moreover, getting a Widevine L1 certificate isn’t the sole requirement for HD streaming.

Eitherways, we will be keeping tabs on the new changes and will update you with new information as it surfaces.
