Best Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Phones: Galaxy S22 Ultra, iQoo 9T 5G, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and more

Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset at Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii. This is the company’s front runner and that which will power most of the flagships of 2022. And it’s not just about a new nomenclature, but the new chip claims to be up to 4x faster in AI computations, 30% faster in graphics rendering, and 25% more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 888 SoC. The newcomer also comes equipped with the world’s first 5G modem-RF solution that’s capable of hitting 10Gb download speeds on a supported network. (हिंदी में पढ़ें)

Here’s everything else you need to know about the new Qualcomm processor:

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Features

  • The octa-core chipset consists of 1x Cortex-X2 prime core clocked at 3.0GHz, 3x Cortex-A710 performance cores running at 2.5GHz, and 4x Cortex-A510 efficiency cores dialed at 1.8GHz.
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is based on a 4nm process node and is the first Qualcomm chip to use the latest Armv9 architecture.
  • Compared to the Snapdragon 888 silicon, this one’s up to 20% improved performance, 30% snappier in graphics loads (thanks to an undisclosed Adreno GPU), up to 4x faster in AI processing (thanks to 7th gen Hexagon AI engine), and 25% more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 888 SoC.
  • The company says there will be a new GPU control panel for calibrating the gaming performance on your handset. Also, with AI capabilities, there will be a feature similar to Nvidia’s DLSS here that would optimize the graphics rendering in real-time.
  • SD 8 Gen 1 also comes with a Snapdragon X65 modem that besides the mmWave and Sub-6GHz 5G support, also boasts up to 10Gbps downlink rate and 3GPP Release 16 benefits.
  • Its connectivity options also include in-built iSIM support, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth LE Audio (with AptX Lossless codec).

  • On the camera front, you’ll be getting “Snapdragon Sight” which comprises of Spectra triple-ISP system that’s capable of shooting 18-bit RAW and 8K video in HDR10+ quality, an enhanced dark mode, a “Bokeh Engine” that will provide better-blurred backgrounds in portrait shots and 4K videos, an “ultrawide engine” that can de-warp fish-eye and chromatic aberrations from super wide-angle photos.
  • There is even a discrete ISP with an Always-on camera functionality for a quicker face unlocking mechanism. This will be an opt-in-only feature and even whence you do so, the data hence captured would be stored locally in a dedicated secure enclave.
  • As for security, Qualcomm has baked in a “dedicated Trust Management Engine” as well as Android Ready SE for the safe storage of e-money wallets, digital keys, licenses, and IDs.

List of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Phones: Released and Expected in 2022

The first batch of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 smartphones are already out in India and we expect more to debut in days to come. Anyways, here’s the list of these phones with the new Snapdragon chipset:

1. Moto Edge 30 Pro

Motorola Edge 30 Pro is a rebranded version of the globally announced Moto Edge X30. The phone innards include Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, and a 5000mAh battery with 68W fast charging support. The Android software is nearly stock with some proprietary treats.

The display up front stretches 6.7-inches in size. It is AMOLED in nature with a Full-HD+ resolution, 10-bit colors, a central punch-hole cutout, 144Hz refresh rate, a 576Hz touch sampling rate, and HDR10+ support. The phone sports a 60MP selfie shooter. Flip to the back and there you get a triple camera setup consisting of a 50MP main sensor, 50MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor.

2. Realme GT 2 Pro

Realme has revealed its GT2 Pro phone will come powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. As per leaked specs, the handset will sport a 6.8-inch WQHD+ flat OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Inside, besides the chip, it is likely to ship with Android 12 based Realme UI 3.0 software.

It comes with up to 12GB RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, and 65W charging support. In the camera department, you could expect a triple camera setup including a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and an 8MP telephoto shooter. On the front, meanwhile, you could get a 32MP selfie camera.

3. Xiaomi 12 Pro

Xiaomi has also come forward with its flagship called Xiaomi 12 Pro which is propelled by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The device flaunts a curved 6.73-inches tall LTPO OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision support.

The performance benefits from a memory configuration of up to 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Among other specs, the handset also features three 50MP cameras at the back, a 32MP selfie sensor at the front, and a 120W fast charger in the box.

4. Samsung Galaxy S22 Series

Samsung S-series historically launched in two configurations one with the top-of-the-line chipset from Qualcomm and one with its own Exynos lineup. Usually, Samsung prefers to offer the Exynos variant in India but this year there’s a change in plan.

This year, the S22 series comes in India with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The S22 series includes three phones – the vanilla Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the S22 Ultra. The latter one is the most premium phone from the line-up.

The S22 Ultra comes with an inbuild S-Pen, up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 1 TB USF 3.1 storage. On top of this hardware, it comes running on Android 12 with One UI 4 skin. You will be interacting with this software through a 6.8-inch 2K AMOLED screen. As for cameras, S22 Ultra is rumored to bring a 108MP camera as part of a quad-camera setup.

5. iQOO 9 Pro

iQOO has officially announced its iQOO 9 Pro with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. iQOO The flagship phone offers top-of-the-line innards, premium design, and an excellent 2K display. It’s a 3D curved AMOLED screen that can do a 120Hz refresh rate. It comes running on Funtouch UI with Android 12 base. Bundled 120W flash charger refills its 4500mAh battery in a little over 20 minutes.

The iQOO 9 Pro is also available in two colours, and two storage variants. While an 8GB variant is priced at Rs 64,990, a 12GB variant is priced at Rs 69,990.

6. OnePlus 10 Pro

The OnePlus 10 Pro has been in news this week for the wrong reasons as has it failed the durability test. Nonetheless, it has been confirmed to launch in India this autumn. Since it is already out in Chinese market, we know almost everything about its specs and design.

The OnePlus 10 Pro features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip along with a 6.67-inch QHD+ AMOLED panel, up to 12GB LPDDR 5X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. OnePlus continues with its Hasselblad partnership as it offers a triple camera setup including a 48MP main camera on the back, along with a 50MP ultra-wide camera and 8MP telephoto camera. There’s also a 5,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging bundled in.

7. Vivo X80 Pro

The Vivo X80 Pro recently debuted in India offering top of the line specs and features. The Vivo X80 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset which is coupled with up to 12GB RAM and up to 1 TB storage.

It will sport a 6.78-inch Quad HD+ LTPO E5 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. In the camera department, Vivo X80 Pro+ will have a 50MP primary camera with a 48MP secondary camera and 2 50MP sensors for 2x and 5x zoom. It will come with a V1 chip for image processing and have 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging support.

7. Oppo Find X4 Pro

Oppo’s flagship for 2022 has been unveiled at MWC 2022 bearing a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip under the hood. It’s a 5G phone with excellent specs on offer. We expect OPPO find X5 series to debut in India in sometime in April.

The Find X5 boasts a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is IP68 water and dust resistance and comes running on Android 12-based ColorOS 12 out of the box. Just like OnePlus, OPPO has partnered with Hasselblad to co-develop Find X5’s 50MP triple rear camera setup. It features a dedicated Marisilicon X chip that helps it capture better high-resolution night videos.

8. Nubia Red Magic 7

Nubia is all set to launch the next in its Red Magic Series and the company has confirmed 4 new features for the device. The smartphone’s cooling system has received a score of 41279 which is the highest and comes with 165W fast charging support. It has a 100% P3 color and an AnTuTu score of 1101769. The smartphone will launch with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 18GB RAM. It will sport a 6.8-inch FHD+OLED display and have a 64MP main rear camera. It will run Android 12.

9. Asus Zenfone 9

Asus Zenfone 9 is expected to launch this year and it will reportedly have a flip camera design with 2 cameras placed on the top right side of the rear side. It may have touch sense at the back and will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

10. Black Shark 5 Pro

Black Shark 5 Pro is expected to go live in Feb-Mar 2022 and it is expected to have a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel for Quad HD+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and 720Hz touch sampling rate. It will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and pack a 5000mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. It will run Android 12.

11. iQOO 9T 5G

The iQOO 9T 5G was launched in India in August 2022. It is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset with up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. It runs Android and features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display. The smartphone packs a 4700mAh battery with 120W fast charging and sports a triple camera setup at the back (50MP+13MP+12MP). It is priced at Rs. 49,999 in the country.

12. Sony Xperia 1 IV 5G

The smartphone by Sony was launched in India in 2022 and is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset with up to 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. It sports a 6.5-inch OLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone features a triple camera setup at the back (12MP+12MP+12MP) and packs a 5000mAh battery with 30W wired fast charging. It is priced at Rs. 1,08,999 in India.
