The return of the Yu Yureka smartphone (albeit in an all new and improved ‘Black’ version) after two years has opened up an interesting duel in the budget segment of the market, with the recently launched Xiaomi Redmi 4 being considered to be its arch-nemesis.(हिंदी में पढ़ें)

The coming back Yureka joins the list of the select few smartphones with 4GB RAM under the Rs. 10,000 bracket, while the Redmi 4 has a few variants with upgrades proportional to each rise in the price range. Faced with a similar dilemma, we decided to explore the two.

Out and out, this is how the duo fares, with respect to each other:

Coming to the insides, here’s how the phones fare, when stacked against each other:

Design and Display

The similarity in this department between both the Redmi 4 and the Yu Yureka Black is apparent as both fit in a 5-inch display beneath a 2.5D curved glass with the resolution of the two being the ever so slight difference (the Yu Yureka Black has a full HD one while the Redmi 4 has HD). Admittedly, the Yu Yureka Black has a slightly sharper display here, but considering the screen size, even HD would have done well.

For display, it is even stevens as both the display panels are good and you wouldn’t notice much of a difference unless you place them side by side.

For the design bit, both the phones make use of a metal unibody and are of similar built and physique. Now, while the Redmi 4 takes off after its older siblings and improves upon the basic Xiaomi ‘template’, the Yu Yureka is, in fact, a rebranded Wiko U Feel Prime smartphone (the launch of which can be credited to a nondescript Chinese company) in all practicality. So, even Stevens here, too.

Performance

This is an area where the Redmi 4 has an upper hand courtesy the updated, next generation Snapdragon 435 SoC which would bode well with the HD display put on offer.

The Yu Yureka Black, on the other hand, is hot on the heels of the former with a Snapdragon 430 chipset, but when we take the Full HD display into consideration, it makes it a tad more susceptible to performance lag when subjected to heavy usage (since Snapdragon 430 maxes at full HD resolution).

Winner of the round? The Redmi 4.

Camera and Battery

The optics department is also stacked up evenly and treads the middle path as far as a simple look at the hardware is concerned. On paper, once again, there isn’t much difference between the two.

Battery-wise, the Xiaomi Redmi, once again, comes out on top, courtesy the 4,100mAh power unit that quite easily pales out the Yu Yureka Black’s 3,000mAh one.

While both the phones do not come running fast charging-enabled, the difference between the two batteries implies that the Redmi 4 would last longer.

Final Verdict

Suffice to say, Micromax (or YU Televentures) does seem to have an ace up its sleeve with the Yu Yureka Black which ticks the right boxes keeping in mind its price range and may very well bolster the company’s bid for redemption.

However, considering the present status of Xiaomi in the Indian smartphone marketing, the odds of winning this battle are stacked in the Redmi 4’s favor. A bigger battery and better performance expectations are formidable advantages that weigh scale in its favour.
