In a counter move to alleged WhatsApp’s upcoming ‘Pay’ feature, India’s largest digital wallet app, Paytm, has introduced an “Inbox” messaging feature. This new addition will allow users to chat with friends and family as well as send and request money without leaving the interface. Paytm has rolled out the feature for both Android and iOS users.

“We have realized that besides making payments, our users and merchants also like to communicate with each other. There is a need for social messaging, commerce and payments seamlessly blending into one another,” Deepak Abbot, senior vice-president of Paytm said.

Paytm Inbox feature works the same way any other instant messaging app like WhatsApp. All the messages sent and received will be end-to-end encrypted, and apart from sharing images and videos, users can also share Live Location and Recall Messages, features that WhatsApp rolled out few days back.

WhatsApp ‘Pay’ Feature

Last week, we reported that the WhatsApp will roll out a new update in December that will allow users to make digital transactions to their contacts. This pay feature could be a threat to the digital payment app as the Instant messenger is used by a billion users worldwide. Once the update is rolled out, users do not have to leave chat interface to make payments.
