OmniVision has gotten quite popular over the years with its range of budget, mid-range, and high-end camera sensors. The company has been making some really good camera sensors, including main, ultra-wide, and telephoto ones. The newest addition is the 50 MP OV50M40—a versatile camera sensor with 1/2.88” optical format.
The new sensor features quad cell binning, which means that it can output 12.5 MP images (~1.22µm pixel size), in addition to the 50 MP full resolution. Each pixel size is 0.61µm. There’s also support for high-quality tele-crop zoom (in-sensor zoom) at 2x and 3x magnifications.

The sensor also supports single-exposure DAG video HDR and always-on low power to detect motion. It can take 50 MP photos with quick autofocus at 12 frames per second (fps), 12.5 MP photos at 60 fps, record 4K videos with autofocus at 60 fps, and even capture 1080p videos at 120 fps.
