China-based electronics manufacturer Oppo is rolling out its media invites for the MWC 2017, that is all set to take place later this week in Barcelona.

Although it is still unclear as to whether the company would launch a new product, the invites point towards a new photography technology altogether.

The invite in question primarily features the number ‘5’ and the alphabet ‘X’ intertwined together with the phrases ‘Go 5x Further’ as well as ‘So Close You Can Feel It’ placed at their right and bottom respectively.

Saying that the technology would provide another dimension to photography, the invite will seems to suggest that the upcoming offering will help users to take detailed images from a distance.

It is not the first time the company is introducing a new technology, having launched the VOOC Flash Charge, that could charge a 2,500mAh battery from zero to its full capacity in about 15 minutes, way back in 2014 (and later improving it in 2016).

Oppo’s affinity towards making products rich in optics is well known, with an array of selfie-centric smartphones such as the F1s, F1 Plus and A57 in its portfolio to support the claim.

Though the invite didn’t reveal much about the claimed ‘breakthrough’ technology, it is being speculated that it would have some sort of optical zoom feature based on the phrases mentioned in the invite.

By the looks of it, the 5x technology could very well start rolling out in the company’s future smartphones that are due to be released this year.

Whether it does have any impact or urge other smartphone companies into licensing it from Oppo for their devices, remains to be seen though.
