OPPO has finally introduced its Reno3 Pro in India. The Reno3 Pro, being a flagship, offers top-shelf hardware for an amazing price starting at Rs 29,990. The new ‘Pro’ brandishes a sleek design with the world’s first 44MP dual punch-hole display, is driven by a powerful chipset and employs a versatile quad-camera system.

However impressive they may read; specs seldom reveal the complete picture. So, to verify whether the practical experience matches the on-paper hype, we went up close with the OPPO Reno3 Pro. Is it a phone that you should buy? Let’s answer that.

Design and Display

Once again, OPPO cuts a dash with the Reno3 Pro. Frankly, this doesn’t come as a surprise. Reno-series phones have always aced it when it comes to design and we didn’t expect any different from the Reno3 Pro.

The handset is extremely slim and light and has a rounded appeal that makes it feel great in hands. Indeed, we were enchanted to the point where we were looking for excuses to just draw out and flaunt it.

The first thing we noticed was the sleek dual punch-hole display. The cutout is clean and serves as an instant head-turner. The display itself is a gorgeous 6.4-inch Super AMOLED panel that can achieve brightness as high as 1200 Nits while adjusting the voltage according to brightness and fine operations. The Super AMOLED display also makes a hidden fingerprint unlock 3.0 feasible. The third-gen optical in-display fingerprint reader is conveniently positioned and helps with quick and secure access in just 334 ms. The device also comes with Full Care Display Certification by TÜV Rheinland that reduces eye strain for the users due to its upgraded low-brightness strobe flash-free and low blue ray technologies.

The Reno3 Pro has indeed taken OPPO’s legacy of innovation and aesthetics to the next level. With a dimension of 158.8mm × 73.4mm × 8.1mm, the phone just weighs 175g which feels absolutely great in the hand.

No matter how cutting edge the internal hardware might be, a phone can’t impart a premium feel without an inspiring design. Undoubtedly, this is one area where OPPO excels and that’s exactly what the Reno3 Pro corroborates. In India, the OPPO Reno3 Pro comes in three gorgeous colours inspired by natural skylights – Auroral Blue, Midnight Black, and Sky White.

Camera

Even in 2020, stellar camera performance remains a flagship-exclusive trait. The Reno3 Pro features 64MP Zoom quad-camera that manages to deliver clear images under all lighting conditions.

The first in the quartet is the main 64MP Ultra-clear camera that can capture astonishing details and vivid, well-balanced colours. The next is 8MP Ultra Wide-angle snapper that helps capture spectacular wide frames even with space constraints.

The Reno3 Pro also has a 13MP zoom camera with a telephoto lens that facilitates from 5x Hybrid zoom to 20x optical zoom, and a 2MP mono sensor that perfects portraits.

These cameras are stacked in a vertical structure and work together to accomplish 2x optical, 5x hybrid, and 20x digital zoom. The zoom enables you to get remarkably close to distant objects and we found ourselves leveraging this superpower very frequently. Another aspect of the Reno3 Pro that deserves a thumbs-up is the zoom capabilities are also enabled in the Video mode.

Using the multi-frame composition solution, the Reno3 Pro can also shoot 108MP images with staggering details. Just pinch and zoom in on any captured shot and you will be surprised by the amount of fine detail the images retain.

The imaging system is bolstered by AI-enabled smart software. OPPO has perfected its scene detection algorithms over the years, and the Reno3 Pro also gets a very potent Ultra Dark Mode that can uplift dark scenes without making them look artificial.

On the front, the 44MP high-resolution primary selfie camera captures abundant details and the smart AI Beauty mode gets more data to work its magic with. The selfies turned out crisp, clear and natural. The primary shooter is also paired with a 2MP depth sensor that helps with more natural portrait selfies.

Moreover, the selfie camera also gets an Ultra Night Selfie Mode! When taking selfies in dark ambiance, the Night Selfie Mode can combine multiple shots taken at different exposures, reduce noise using AI-based algorithms, and retain natural facial details.

Not just still photography, but with features like Video Bokeh, Ultra Steady Video 2.0 stabilization, and Soloop Smart Video Editor, the Reno3 Pro also has numerous provisions for videographers.

The OPPO Reno3 Pro thoroughly impresses with its camera. Users will be able to effortlessly capture stunning shots, even in tricky lighting – both from the front and rear cameras!

The balance in the diverse camera feature options in both the front and the rear camera gets a thumbs up from us.

Performance and software

The Reno3 Pro also employs the MediaTek P95 chipset. The processor is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB/ 256GB storage. This is enough power to handle the most demanding of loads, which is why the Reno3 Pro feels blazing fast. All high-end games run smooth and the handset can run multiple apps simultaneously without any hint of lag.

Gaming on the Reno3 Pro also benefits from the latest Hyber Boost that boosts frame rates and touch optimizations. The core performance hardware is backed by a well-optimized software. The ColorOS 7 brings in a redesign with new icons, more pleasing colors, and slick animations. This is a feature-rich and intuitive interface that consumers will feel at home with.

The phone supports HD streaming on Apps like Netflix. The impressive display coupled with Hi-res audio and Dolby Atmos support further ensure fabulous multimedia experience.

Mileage from the 4025mAh power unit can comfortably stretch over 1.5 to 2 days, and thanks to the 30W fast VOOC 4.0 charging, the phone can charge superfast.

Should you buy it?

OPPO has hit this one out of the park. The Reno3 Pro is a phone that looks like a million dollar, houses powerful cutting-edge hardware, has an impressive set of front and rear cameras, and runs a very intuitive software. All of this sums up to a spectacular end-user experience.
