Oppo Enco X2 Review: Design & Fit

First look at the overall design of the Oppo Enco X2 Buds will give you the impression of being almost similar to its predecessor Enco X. Unlike brands like Sony and Sennheiser, Oppo has stuck to a minimalistic design that resembles Apple Air Pods Pro. The case and buds both have a basic design but that doesn’t mean they don’t look good. The Buds and Case both are decently good-looking and leave no room for complaint if you are someone who is happy with good performance and simple design factors. I received the white colour variant and it looked nice.

The Oppo Enco X2 Buds Case has a glossy finish and is pebble-shaped with no metallic ring around the edges. The case is slightly larger and thicker than the previous gen Oppo Enco buds but the design has not undergone much change.  The Dynaudio logo sits on the hinge and the battery status indicator is placed alongside the USB Type-C port at the bottom. The wireless charging coil is placed on the front side and the face lets you open the lid while the pairing button is placed at the side.

The Oppo Enco X2 earbuds have the same shape as the Oppo Enco X. The Buds are compact, rounded, and have a short stem to house the microphone. The ear tips are thicker than previous gen Enco Buds but are made of silicone and are thus comfortable to wear in the ears for long durations. The buds are made of plastic and have a smooth texture and glossy finish. The swipe gestures for volume control are present but the rest of the functions like playback and calls are now handled by pinch gestures. The pinch gestures work well and avoid the dislodging of buds from the ears regularly. The buds are IP54 rated for protection against sweat, dust, and minor water splashes, and are light in weight as well.

Overall, the Oppo Enco X2 Buds have a decent design and come with a comfortable fit for your ears.

Oppo Enco X2 Buds Review: Connectivity, Controls & Features

The Oppo Enco X2 Buds come with various connectivity feature supports for Hi-Res audio, wireless charging transparency mode with voice boost, and a customized sound profile based on ear canal structure. It has good call quality indoors while outdoors, your voice might get interrupted due to sounds of traffic and other noises. Otherwise, the mics are ok.

The Oppo Enco X2 Buds support OPPO’s Hey Melody app which is available on both Android and ios stores. I used the buds with an android device and faced no issues while connecting the TWS to the smartphone. Google Fast Pair makes sure that the Enco X2 Buds are quickly identified by all devices registered on your Google Account.

The app comes with many stats and features. It shows battery life and allows one to customize their experience by turning ANC on/off, Transparency mode, EQ Presets, personalized noise cancellation, golden sound, and more. The buds support LHDC, LDAC, and AAC codecs and the app allows you to choose the codec you want to use. The buds come with a dual connection feature that makes it easy to pair the buds to 2 devices at the same time. You can also customize the touch controls and update the firmware via the app.

The only problem with dual device connectivity is that sometimes it is not very smooth after the automatic switch to the phone when you get a call and back to the original device. Gestures on the Enco X2 work by sliding on the stem of the earbuds and squeezing them. The slide gestures control volume and playback is triggered by the side of the earbud stem and not the outer edge. I found gestures slightly difficult to use at first as I was not habituated to sliding gestures. One might feel inconvenient as these gestures are slightly tricky when used first. Overall, the features of the Oppo Enco X2 Buds do have some niggles, but these are not undermining the product in any way.

Oppo Enco X2 Review: Sound Quality & Call Quality

The Oppo Enco X2 Buds try to be better at what lacked in the previous generation of the Oppo Enco X. The buds come with controlled bass to boost the lower frequencies and spice up the mids. The soundstage is mostly balanced with a good depth. The lower and mid frequencies are clearly tuned while the highs are loud yet distortion-free.

Oppo has partnered with Dynaudio tuning and provided dual 11mm and 6mm drivers between which you can choose from 4 EQ presets. The dual drivers provide a better listening experience as compared to most of the other TWS buds in this segment.

ANC is one of the most important functions of any TWS. The noise isolation on the Enco X2 Buds is strictly ok. The silicone ear tips provide below-par levels of passive noise isolation which get slightly better when ANC is turned on. The sounds of ceiling fans and exhausts also blur out when ANC is kept on. There is not much of a difference when Transparency mode is switched on, so this feature doesn’t add much value. There are 3 modes- noise cancellation, off, and transparency, thus allowing you the flexibility to customize the listening experience as per your needs. There are levels of noise cancellation like Mild, Moderate, and Smart, so one can choose accordingly.

Oppo Enco X2 TWS Review: Battery

Oppo claims that the Enco X2 Buds will provide 40 hours of playback with the case on a single charge, this claim doesn’t hold true. I used the buds at 50-70% volume for calls, listening to music and more and the buds lasted for about 32-34 hours. If you keep ANC off and don’t use the buds for calling and meetings, the battery will last longer. ANC turn affects the battery life along with other aspects like dual device connection etc. Each earbud comes with a 57mAh battery while the case has a 566mAh battery. The buds take about an hour to get fully charged while the case with buds inside takes around 90 minutes to recharge completely. Moreover, wireless charging is available and a 5-minute quick charge provides 90 minutes of playback time.

Review Verdict: Should you buy Oppo Enco X2?

Critic’s rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Priced at Rs. 10,999 in India, the Oppo Enco X2 TWS is one of the most loaded earbuds in the Indian market in today’s times. It comes with an effective ANC, good call quality, strong build, and comfortable fit design, and has a long battery life as well. and underwhelming depth in the audio of the buds. It’s the only downside, in my opinion, it’s, it’s not as impressive as the transparency mode of Samsung or Sony buds. However, this slight niggle doesn’t take away from the superior performance of the next generation of the Oppo Enco X2 Buds. Thus, these are a good recommendation for those who want premium quality earbuds and don’t have budget constraints.
