First, the long-awaited OnePlus 7 series launched in two models- the OnePlus 7 Pro (review) and OnePlus 7. While the Pro edition is the quintessential flagship device, OnePlus surprised the fans with the base variant’s pricing. It could still stand on its own holding the turf ruled by its predecessor. However, along the way came Asus 6z (review). From the first impressions itself, it feels a strong contender against OnePlus 7, both on paper and price.
So, if you’re out for a new phone and confused among these two flagship-grade entrants, this comparison could help you out.

OnePlus 7 vs Asus 6z comparison: Display
While both the phones share a 6.4-inch display with Full HD+ resolution, OnePlus 7 sports an Optic AMOLED panel while the Asus 6z has an IPS LCD. AMOLED is the coveted display tech due to its ability to project deep blacks, high contrast ratio, and colors that pop. That said, 6z’s LCD panel is of great quality and can surely match up. It’s also notch-free, which makes it trendier.
Also, the Asus 6z screen is shielded by the latest Gorilla Glass 6, and the OnePlus 7 has slightly dated Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
OnePlus 7 vs Asus 6z comparison: Design
This year it seems the OnePlus used up its creativity in crafting the Pro variant. Thus the OnePlus 7 looks like a repackaged OnePlus 6T (review). It has the same small teardrop notch atop, with a slim bezel at the bottom of the screen.
the Asus 6z design, on the other hand, feels a lot more exciting, thanks to a motorized rotating flip camera. This endows a full display screen up front and same camera for front and back. In case you accidentally drop the phone, this flip module would auto retract quickly to avoid damage. Asus claims to have rigorously tested the module for more than 100,000 flips. However, only time could tell its real-life durability.
Both the phones have Gorilla Glass front and back with aluminum frame. While you get dual speakers with both, Asus retains the 3.5mm headphone jack. You get the usuals like the tactile power button, volume rockers, and SIM tray in both the phones. While OnePlus 7 ships with the Alert Slider, the Asus 6z comes with a dedicated Google Assistant ‘Smart Key’. This is configurable into third party app launcher as well.
OnePlus 7 vs Asus 6z comparison: Camera
Both the phone bears a 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor at the back. OnePlus adds a 5MP depth sensor alongside this primary sensor (f/1.7). Asus has an interesting Camera arrangement.
As mentioned earlier in the design segment, this one has a flip camera that uses a rotating mechanism. Thus you get the same camera setup for both front and back- 48MP (f/1.8) 26mm (wide) primary shooter coupled with a 13 MP, f/2.4, 11mm (ultrawide) sensor.
The wide-angle shooter is a bonus for selfie enthusiasts, and flip camera implementation is extremely helpful in capturing vertical and horizontal panoramas and even wide-angle shots.
OnePlus 7 vs Asus 6z comparison: Internals
OnePlus 7 is engined by a 7nm based octa-core 2.84GHz Snapdragon 855 chipset with AI engine, Adreno 640 GPU. This is assisted by 6/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB onboard storage.
Asus, for the most part, shares the same chipset specs and memory/storage options with the OnePlus 7. However, it also comes in an additional 64GB storage variant and its storage is expandable via dedicated slot up to a mammoth 1TB.
OnePlus is using the latest UFS 3.0 storage (as against UFS 2.1 on the 6z) and this should give the 7 a performance advantage.
