Google latest Android version, 9.0 Pie, brings in several visual refinements and AI-powered additions for more personalized experience. Android Pie was first made available on the Google Pixel smartphones followed by Android One phones that run stock Android software. Now several Android partners have started rolling out Android 9.0 Pie updates on their popular phones in India.

OnePlus 5/5T Android 9 Pie Update

OnePlus equips its phones with OxygenOS which is a near stock android software bundled with a ton of useful features. OnePlus 6 has already been updated to Pie and today OnePlus has announced the Android Pie Beta for its 5 and 5T.

These are the new features which will be available new Beta Builds:

•System

Updated system to Android™ 9.0 Pie™
Brand new UI for Android Pie
Brand new navigation gestures (this is only for 5T)
Updated Android security patch to 2018.11
Optimizations for background app process handling

•Do Not Disturb mode

New Do Not Disturb mode with adjustable settings

•Communication

UI Improvements for emergency rescue
Optimized UI for speed dial and calling interface
Now able to assign a specific SIM for a specific contact or group of contacts when using dual SIM

•Parallel Apps

Added support for more apps (Telegram, Discord, IMO, Uber, OLA)  in parallel apps

•Weather

Now able to switch dynamically to your current location
Display more suggestions when the search function is used
Fixed an issue that prevented the app from refreshing when the location is changed
Fixed an issue that resulted in some users being unable to find certain locations

Since this is an Open Beta version you will not get an OTA unless you are already a part of the Beta program. If you want to try out the Open beta version then you will have to download the update from here and manually flash the build. You will find the step by step procedure to follow in the same website but keep it in mind that since this is not a stable build it might entail some bugs.

We’d advise you to wait for the stable version roll out, which should happen soon.

Xiaomi Poco F1 Android 9 Pie Update

Xiaomi isn’t generally prompt with version updates, but it looks like they are willing to take a more aggressive stance with the Poco lineup. The MIUI 10.1.3.0 stable ROM based on Android 9 Pie has already started rolling out to Poco F1 users. The update is being sent to users incrementally over the air. The following is the changelog of the new update:

Other
•  Restore Settings for turning off screen automatically couldn’t be used
•  Restore Microphone didn’t work after earphones had been connected
•  Restore Issues with Android Auto

Camera
•  Add Google Lens support

Software
• Android 9.0 update

However, many users are complaining that they are facing issues with the ambient display and are not able to hide the notch. This update also does not bring Android Pie features like new navigation gestures and adaptive brightness. It also does not seem to have an option to enable full-screen mode while playing games. So there are a ton of refinements which need to be done to this new update and we hope future updates should make things better.
