Nvidia reveals partnership with MediaTek for ARM PCs besides new RTX GPUs at GTC 2021

At the GTC 2021 virtual stage, Nvidia unveiled six new GPUs based on Ampere architecture for pro-grade PCs and laptops. Further, among other things, the company also announced its collaboration with MediaTek for developing RTX chips for Chromebooks and Linux PCs.

Nvidia RTX GPUs Details

Nvidia introduced six RTX GPUs – four for laptops and two for desktops. The company aims to meet the “Hybrid” workflow in the new normal.

RTX A4000 GPU

The four laptop GPUs include Nvidia RTX A2000, RTX A3000, RTX A4000, and RTX A5000 are equipped with advanced in-house Max-Q and RTX technologies. The maker will employ the GPUs for improved productivity on the upcoming notebooks.

The two desktop GPUs, Nvidia RTX A5000 and Nvidia RTX A4000 are meant to increase the performance twice by incorporating new RT Cores, Tensor Cores, and CUDA cores. They are assisted with 24GB of GDDR6 memory.

Nvidia and MediaTek Partnership

The graphics giant Nvidia is collaborating with MediaTek to step up the performance expectations from ARM-based PCs. The first combination will involve Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series GPU and MediaTek MT819x chipset. The fruits of this labor are expected later in 2021. The partnership could also bleed over to mobile phones in the future.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said during the event, “We’re announcing a partnership with MediaTek to create a reference system and SDK for Chrome OS and Linux PCs. MediaTek is the world’s largest SoC maker. Combining NVIDIA GPUs and MediaTek SoCs will make excellent PCs and notebooks.”
