Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 and RTX 3050Ti usher in Ray Tracing to affordable laptops

Nvidia has unveiled the Geforce RTX 3050 series of GPUs, aimed at mainstream audiences, or differently put budget-friendly laptops. There are two models viz., the RTX 3050 and RTX 3050Ti. We have recently saw the former inside the Samsung Galaxy Book Odyssey. Anyway, coming to the chips, they are based on Ampere architecture and features high-end goodies like ray tracing, DLSS, among other things.

So, as you can see from the table above, both these GPUs are fabbed on 8nm Ampere architecture. The Ti variant is slightly higher-powered with 2560 CUDA cores and a max boost frequency of 1695MHz.

Now, both these cards feature ray tracing thanks to RT cores and DLSS 2.0 in lieu of Tensor cores. Other proprietary technologies such as Nvidia Reflex are also present.

Nvidia claims 2x the performance compared to the previous generation and support for 1080 gaming at 60fps. The company says laptops featuring the new graphics will be available later this summer.

“The latest wave of laptops provides the perfect opportunity to upgrade, particularly for gamers and creators with older laptops who want to experience the magic of RTX.” Further, he added that “there are now five times more RTX 30 Series gaming laptops that are thinner than 18mm compared with previous-generation RTX systems, delivering ground breaking performance with very sleek and portable designs,” says Mark Avermann, Nvidia’s director of product management for laptops.
