Nokia 8.3 is the First 5G Phone with Truly Global Support

HMD Global unveiled a bunch of phones, thus further broadening its phone portfolio. Amongst the newcomers, the Nokia 8.3 is the brand’s first 5G phone, Nokia 5.3 is a mid-ranger, Nokia 1.3 is an Android GO phone and last but not least, Nokia 5310 is a feature phone. Further, the Finnish company introduced a global roaming data SIM card, with support for plans in 120 countries.

This Nokia phone runs on Snapdragon 765G with Dual-mode 5G support. The internals also comprises of up to 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage (expandable up to 400GB), 4500mAh battery. You get an 18W charger.

As for form, Nokia 8.3 sports a punch-hole display, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a circular camera by the back. The display measures 6.81-inches with FullHD+ resolution. The device comes in Polar night color.

The Zeiss-backed optics include a 24MP selfie snapper, a 64MP main rear shooter, a 12MP ultrawide module, a depth sensor, and a macro module.

You also get things like a 3.5mm jack and stock Android 10 with 2 years of upgrades and 3 years of monthly security updates.

Nokia 5.3 ships with Snapdragon 665, up to 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage (with microSD expansion), Android 10, and a 4,000 mAh battery (with 10W charger). The frontier is a 6.55-inch HD+ IPS display.

This is an entry-grade phone driven by a Qualcomm 215 chip. The Android Go software, which is a minimalist rendition of Android 10 is present on top of the hardware. The screen stretches to 5.71-inches and is an IPS HD+ panel. It has a 5MP camera inside a waterdrop notch and an 8MP rear snapper.

It drinks off a 3000mAh battery and you get a very basic 5W charging.

And what’s Nokia without the nostalgic element, eh? To satisfy that sentiment, here you have the 5310 from the Originals lineup. It adorns the black/red and white/red color tones. You get a side-mounted music controls. It has a 2.4” QVGA display, an alphanumeric keypad, 16MB of onboard storage, 32GB of microSD extension, MP3 player, front-firing speakers, 1,200 mAh battery and dual-band 2G connectivity.

HMD Connect SIM retails at €9.95 globally and the data limit differs depending upon the state you are in. There are a total of 120 countries, divided into 3 zones. For instance, India falls in Zone 2 which is given 500MB of data. Accordingly, countries falling in Zone 1 and 3 will get 1GB and 250MB respectively. They have a 14 days validity.

You can also go with the pay-as-you-go renewal option for an extra €5. You may check out the HMD Connect app for Android from the Play Store. You’ll be using this app to activate your SIM and manage your bundles.

Pricing and Availability

  • The  Nokia  8.3  5G  is available globally starting in summer 2020 and comes in Polar Night for a global average retail price of 599 Euros for 6GB/64GB RAM/ROM and 649 Euros for 8GB/128GB storage options.
  • The  Nokia  5.3 is available globally starting in April and comes in Cyan, Sand, and Charcoal with the 4GB/64GB RAM/ROM configuration priced at a global average retail price of 189 Euros.
  • The Nokia 1.3 is available globally starting in April and comes in Cyan, Sand, and Charcoal with a global average retail price of just 95 Euros.
  • The Nokia 5310 will be available in White/Red and Black/Red, starting in March 2020 at a global average retail price of 39 Euros.
  • HMD Connect BETA launches now through HMDConnect.com with a Starter Kit including the SIM card, up to 1GB of roaming data, taxes and shipping at the price of 19.95 Euros. The 14-day global data roaming plan starts from 9.95 Euros, with plan upgrades starting from 5 Euros
