While we still have half a year’s worth of smartphone and gadget launches ahead of us, a Chinese tipster seems to have got details about the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The tipster has leaked some information about the handset’s battery and charging rates, which, for the lack of a better word, are disappointing at best. Without any further ado, let’s get through the available details about the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Charging Speed Tipped
According to the reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could support 45W wired charging. If the leak is anything to go by, Samsung’s adherence to 45W charging speed might disappoint prospective buyers, especially since the company’s flagships have been stuck with it for three to four years. The current-generation flagship, Galaxy S24 Ultra (review), also offers 45W wired charging. Further, it is also true for the S23 Ultra and a few older models.

Here’s Why It Won’t Make Sense For The S25 Ultra To Feature 45W Wired Charging
There are two reasons why 45W charging on the S25 Ultra could be a bigger deal than it sounds. First, Samsung’s mid-range smartphones also offer the same charging speed, discouraging buyers from putting more money into flagships. While the mid-range devices could take over an hour to charge, so does the company’s most expensive brick-style smartphone, which is slightly offputting.
Second, the competition, including smartphones such as the OnePlus 12, Xiaomi 14, the Vivo X100 Pro, and the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, provides a better charging speed. For instance, the OnePlus flagship ships with an 80W charger in the box, while the Xiaomi 14 supports 120W HyperCharge technology. The other two handsets also feature 100W wired charging. With these charging speeds, one can easily charge their phone in about half an hour (give or take a few minutes).

S25 Ultra Charges Faster Than The iPhone 15 Pro Max Or The Pixel 8 Pro
At the same time, manufacturers like Apple and Google have held their ground with slow charging speeds. According to the former, a slower and more stable charging speed helps maintain battery health for a longer time, which is what the company wants to achieve on its handsets. This happens to be the reason why the top-tier iPhones still provide only 20W wired charging support. Even the Pixel 8 Pro by Google supports a maximum charging speed of 30W, which is nothing compared to the models we just mentioned above.
The tipster adds that by the time Galaxy S25 Ultra goes official (which should be in January 2025), a 6,000 would be the new norm for the Android phone industry. In fact, we can already see a trend among entry-level or mid-range smartphones; they tend to feature a 5,000 or 6,000 mAh battery that may or may not support fast charging. Even so, its primary purpose is to make the phone last longer and fill up for any inefficiencies the processor might have. For now, the rumor mill stands firm with a 5,000 mAh battery prediction for the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
