Mini has expanded its portfolio in India with the launch of two new models: the Countryman E, the zero-emission all-electric car and the new-generation Cooper S 3-Door hatch model.
Countryman E Price in India
Starting at Rs 90 lakh (ex-showroom), the new-generation Countryman comes with only an electric powertrain in the Indian market. This is a break from the global market where both electric and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) versions are produced. The new model received a full upgrade of the design for both the exterior and the interior compared to the prior model. It has been a month since bookings were opened and the SUV is be launched in only one model.
Countryman E Design
On the external shell, we can indicate the very significant differences from the previous generation of cars: the Countryman Electric looks completely different. As with the front end, it has newly developed polymer headlamps with daytime running lights, enlarged black rectangular air intake familiar as the charge port, integrated door handles, and clipped roof line. The rear design comes with new LED taillamps, and a new hefty looking bumper. Inside, the Countryman is quite Spartan with a round column, which is independent of the car’s body, 9.7-inch, centrally-mounted display that replaces the classic analog instruments cluster, which provides all the required information. The interior also regains new vertically oriented slats air conditioning vents and dozens of physical buttons.
Powertrain
The specifics of the Countryman E’s powertrain entail a single electrical motor that comes with 201 bhp as well as peak torque as high as 250 Nm. It is being sold with a 66.55 kWh battery pack that provides a driving range of up to 462 km as per the manufacturers. While an ALL4 variant that boasts of a dual motor and higher power output is obtainable in markets outside of India, it is still uncertain if this car will be taken to the South Asian country. Some of the major competitors of Mini Countryman Electric in the Indian market include BMW iX1, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Volvo XC40 Recharge.
Cooper S 3-Door India Price
Mini has also come up with the new Cooper S 3-Door hatch back model in Indian market starting from Rs 44.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The new generation of the Cooper hatchback debuted in 2023, is global, three and five door, and offered with internal combustion and full electric drive systems. However, in the initial stage, it will only launch the petrol variant of its 3-Door hatchback in India and it will be imported as a completely built unit.
The basic layout of the new Cooper S 3-Door remains recognizable, although the lines of the car are slightly more rounded and curves are replaced by softer transitions, new circular headlights, redesigned the octagonal plate and the back door is replaced with new triangular rear lights. On the inside, Mini has once again adopted a retro look based on the Cooper hatchback. The instrument cluster and touchscreen are located in a big circular panel on the center console and it acts as the control hub for most of the car’s interior features. The features control buttons thereby including the toggle switches for features like the engine start and the drive modes are located at the bottom of the central touchscreen.
With the turbocharged 2.0-litre Turbo-Petrol engine that churns out 201 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, up by 26 bhp from the previous model and an additional 20 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox while the car is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in 6 seconds. By introducing these models, Mini hopes to extend its market reach in India and provide consumers with both an electric car in the form of the SUV model and a stylish, fast car in the form of a hatchback style vehicle.
