Straight off the bat, the inclusion of NFC and the resultant multiple variants are in themselves meaningful upgrades. The new smart band carries a higher price tag. The smart features of a Mi Band could be experienced on the Band’s compact display. The newer Mi Band 4 has a 0.95-inch color AMOLED touch display with 120×240 pixels resolution. Mi Band 3 display stretches to a smaller 0.78-inch OLED touch display with 80×128 pixels resolution.

Xiaomi claims this display is not only larger in dimension and resolution, but also brighter and vivid. Mi Band 4’s screen is a 2.5D scratch-resistant glass. Going by our personal experience, the Mi Band 3’s screen also manages to hold well against wear and tear over time.

While the Mi Band 3 is limited to three watch faces only, Mi Band 4 sports a staggering 77 colorful watch faces. The peripherals like the body cum strap also come out in 6 different colors viz. Black, Brown, Blue, Orange, and Pink. As for Mi Band 3 is currently available in Black color only.

Mi Band 4 is also released in Avengers limited edition with custom dials matching wrist bands for Captain America, Avengers and Iron Man.

Both of them brags up to 50 meters deep water resistance. (Heads up: Don’t go out swimming wearing them.) The newer one bears an improved sensor that could be used to track different types of underwater activities and different swimming styles.

NFC is a nice addition to the Mi Band, but for most consumers in India, this would be a superfluous extra. Well, you could buy the Band 4 in NFC edition or without it. The base variant without NFC is fueled by a 135mAh battery and the NFC equipped model draws power from a smaller 125mAh battery.

Regardless of the above variation, both the variants lead over the Mi Band 3’s smaller 110mAh battery. Moreover, if you buy the NFC edition, it could be used to make payments (in China), easier pairing, and a few for creative purposes using NFC tags.

Another notable difference is Mi Band 4’s charging contact pins which reside on the rear. Mi Band 3, on the other hand, has its charging pins on the bottom side. Ergo, the proprietary charger of Mi Band 4 differs from the Mi Band 3.
