Xiaomi Mi 5S, which kept the rumor mill busy over the last couple of weeks, is now official. Multiple storage and RAM variants have been clubbed under Xiaomi Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus, and they are all exclusive to China as of now.

Comparing the two, the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus has a bigger display (5.15-inch vs 5.7-inch), and a consequent bigger battery to sustain it (3200mAh vs 3800mAh). The much-publicized dual rear cameras, pressure sensitive touch (or 3D touch), and 6GB RAM are also exclusive to the Plus variant.

Both the Xiaomi Mi 5S and the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus are powered by Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor (which is a Snapdragon 820 refresh) and are available in 64GB and 128GB options only. RAM capacities extend from 3GB to 6GB for different storage options of the two.

Another much-hyped feature of the Mi 5s duo is the Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that can read your prints even when your hands are wet. This, however, doesn’t mean that it’s any faster or more accurate than the conventional capacitive ones.

What’s weird is that Xiaomi decided to mount the fingerprint sensor on the rear for the Mi 5S Plus and on the front for the Mi 5S. The opposite would have made more sense, since its always convenient to have the quick unlock option clubbed with the home button for large footprint devices.

The dual camera implementation is more on the lines of Huawei P9, rather than the iPhone 7. Which essentially means that one of two is a monochrome sensor that facilitates capturing more light.

Of course, the new phones are running Android Marshmallow based MIUI8 software. A few other common features include 4MP front-facing camera with 2um pixels, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band (MU-MIMO), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, NFC, USB Type-C.
