Gionee S6, the new metal-clad phone from renowned Chinese smartphone maker is finally official in India, and the asking price is 19,999 INR.
We are gradually moving ahead of the era where Smartphones were crudely classified as “Company phone” and “Chinese phone”, but still if you bear a branding from that side of the boarder and a price approaching 20K, you better be loaded with hardware bells and whistles to show for it.
With S6, Gionee highlights the premium design. It’s a metal unibody phone with those awe-inspiring chamfered edges to drool upon. With all the Le 1s coverage we indulged in this week, we can’t help but notice the design semblance between the two.
Be it the proximity sensor-camera- earpiece-placement, shaved bezels, or the dual strips at the back (which should be plastic), the placement of camera module and secondary noise cancelation microphone – everything reeks familiarity with LeEco design. Or was it Apple’s? Perhaps nobody cares anymore. It is missing the fingerprint sensor though.
Under that sheeny, shiny metallic hood, you will find a rather mediocre MT6753 silicon, duly assisted by ample 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. We would have liked a full HD display for the price, but won’t be writing off the 720p HD panel on the 5.5 Inch HD display just yet. Especially when there is AMOLED panel and impressively high screen-to-body ratio to look forward to.
