MediaTek is highly active in rolling out new chipsets one after the other. The latest release is the MediaTek Helio G80, which would be a midrange-pleaser from their ‘G’ lineup. Hierarchy-wise, this would fall in between the MediaTek G90 and G70. However, this is said to be a refinement over the G70 chip, that launched just the other month. It also packs the proprietary HyperEngine game technology for the enhanced gaming experience.
MediaTek Helio G80 SoC
Structurally, the Helio G80 chip consists of dual Arm Cortex-A75 performance CPUs clocking up to 2GHz, combined with six Cortex-A55 efficiency processors ticking at 1.8GHz. It is based on TSMC’s 12nm FinFET process. The cores share an Arm Mali G52 2EEMC2 GPU with speeds of up to 950MHz. There is no APU here, just like the case of G70.

There is support for up to 8GB LPDDR4X memory and eMMC 5.1 storage. Then there is the in-house gaming technology called HyperEngine which offers the following benefits –
- Intelligent prediction of Wi-Fi & LTE concurrency triggers in just 13 milliseconds
- A faster response between smartphone and cell-tower
- Simply defer calls while in-game without the connection dropping for a moment
- Intelligent, dynamic management of CPU, GPU, and memory
- Smoother performance in heavy-loading game engines, demanding scenes and intense gameplay
- Enhanced power efficiency for even longer gameplay
While the first MediaTek G80 phone will come down this month, the MediaTek Helio G70 will premiere within the Realme C3, which is set to launch later this week.
