After nine years of service, Xiaomi’s head honcho Manu Kumar Jain has quit the Chinese smartphone giant as per the latest social media post. Jain joined Xiaomi back in 2014 as a managing director till 2017 before he was promoted to the Indian subcontinent region president. At the time of its resignation, Jain was the global vice president of the tech juggernaut that has given us some of the most competitive smartphones in the country.

Jain shared a social media post announcing his exit from Xiaomi after serving for nine years. He mentioned that he will be “taking some time off” before joining the bandwagon of his next professional challenge. At the moment, Xiaomi hasn’t announced his replacement. 

Xiaomi launched its first smartphone Xiaomi Mi3 in India in 2014. Here, Jain helped the company launch its first device as a managing director. He added that in just three years of operations in India, the company because a leading smartphone brand in India without spending a penny on advertising. 

Jabong’s co-founder Jain further added that he was later promoted to the position of Indian subcontinent region president in 2017. At the time of his exit, he was the global vice president operating from Dubai with Xiaomi’s International team since July 2021. There have been instances where the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned key persons from Xiaomi citing violations of foreign exchange regulations.

A major boost came after Mr. Ratan Tata invested in Xiaomi back in July 2018. The post further adds how Jain was proud to meet Indian PM Narendra Modi that act as a catalyst for Made-in-India products. Xiaomi soon started producing 100% Made-in-India smartphones and smart TVs adding 50,000 jobs to the roster. 

Jain expressed how Xiaomi went through ups and downs for the initial few years with hundreds of smartphone brands to compete against and limited resources on top of it. Xiaomi India was started in a small office that has transformed into the most loved brand in India as of now. 

With the exit of Manu Kumar Jain from Xiaomi, he will be leading towards the next frontier, ideally, a new industry, where he would use all the learnings Xiaomi has gone through during the last nine years of its ordeal in the country.

According to Counterpoint Research Market Monitor 2022, Xiaomi accounted for 20% of the total market share in India by volume and 14% by value compared to other smartphone brands.
