The Korean giant LG launched a new high-end smartphone at an event held in San-Francisco –the LG V20, which is also the first to run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. This handset takes the flag from LG G5 and is the successor to last year’s V10.
This time around, the handset has grown in terms of sturdiness as it features an aircraft grade aluminum back panel and silicone-polycarbonate caps, which can absorb shock and resist daily wear and tear, on top and bottom. The handset is MIL-STD-810G (US Military Standard) certified and can withstand drops from up to 4 feet.
The point being, the premium looks of the V20 are quite durable as well.
LG V20 seems to be the Pandora’s Box for all the audiophiles (as V-series phones have always been), it employs ESS4 DAC to render immersive Audio playback with active noise cancellation feature. It also comes with enhanced audio recording functionality where you can choose between different modes depending on your surroundings. The ‘Studio mode’ lets you add voice to previously recorded audio files. Moreover, LG has ventured with B&O Play to offer high-quality earphones (you can keep your hopes high here) bundled with V20.
Just like the G5, LG V20 has two cameras on the rear. A standard angle 16MP shooter with f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 135 degree wide-angle 8MP sensor with f/2.8 aperture.
For Selfie, it sports a 5 MP shooter with 120-degree wide-angle lens. Qualcomm’s Steady Record 2.0 promises can offset inevitable hand vibration, thus helping with better video recording.
Like V10, this handset has two displays – the primary (1440 x 2560) Quad HD display 5.7-inches in size and a brighter 2.1-inch (160 x 1040) ticker display above it.The ticker stays on and allows efficient App switching which comes in handy on few occasions.
The android 7.0 Nougat is layered with an upgraded LG UX 5.0+ skin on top. An extensive set of LG Apps comes preloaded. For instance, the LG health App helps you track your daily health goals, the Smart Doctor manages storage resources, etc. All key Android Nougat features like multi-windows, and improved notification shade are integrated within the OS.

The LG V20 is powered by the class leading quad-core Snapdragon 820 mated with Adreno 530 GPU, 4 Gigs of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage (expandable up to 2TB via microSD card).
The back panel can easily pop out using the button placed on the side frame meant for this purpose (no trouble to your fingers here). Which also means that you can swap the 3200mAh battery at will. It’s nice to see at least one major OEM still vouching for removable batteries.
You can choose from three available hues- Titan, Silver, and Pink. The V20 will go on sale in Korea from this month and the handset is expected to roll out globally from next month onwards. We don’t have any official word on its pricing as of yet.
