Lenovo Legion Y740 and Y540 gaming laptops with 9th gen Intel Core i7 processor launched in India

Lenovo unveiled two new gaming laptops from its Legion series, namely the Legion Y740 and Y540 in India. They are driven by the 9th gen Intel Core mobile processor, coupled with the NVIDIA RTX2060 discrete graphic cards. Being gaming rigs, they sport a 144Hz display as well. At the launch event, both Lenovo and Intel representatives spoke at large on the booming gaming community, not just in India but all across the globe.

The tech giant targets the new Legion laptops at youngsters who handle gaming and other aspects of their life in tandem. That said, let’s dive into the specs and features packed within the new Legion Y740 and Y540.

The laptops come in an Iron Gray-colored sleek and svelte aluminum chassis. Lenovo calls this color as Raven Black. You get fully-customizable per-key RGB lighting behind the keyboard and within the thermal venting – which is a usual aesthetic element.

Its 15.6-inch FHD IPS display supports upto 144Hz refresh rate and hit the peak brightness of 500 nits. It comes with an Anti-Glare feature too.

The games you throw at the machine will be engined by the 9th gen Intel Core i7- 9750H processor. This will be aided by 6GB of integrated Intel graphics and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q discrete graphic card. The performance is backed by 16GB DDR4 (2x8GB, upgradeable to 32gigs) RAM and upto 1TB of SSD storage.

The Legion Y740 bears a 3 Cell 57WH cell that claims up to 5 hours of life. It boots 64-bit Windows 10 Home out of the box.

The Y540 carbons much of the Y740 spec sheet. But since they are two distinct models with certain differences that are listed below –

  • Built-wise, Y540 (2.3kg) has a plastic casing and is still a little heftier than the Y740 (2.2kg).
  • The Y740’s keyboard flaunts per-key RGB while the Y540 has a single white-color backlit keyboard.
  • While the Y740 has a Dolby Atmos system speaker with the chamber, Y540’s speaker is from Harman Kardon which supports Dolby Atmos.

  • The Y740 has a Thunderbolt 3 complaint port while the 540 only has a standard USB-C 3.1 port.
  • The Y540 display will be slightly dimmer (with just 300 nits) against the 500 nits of the Y740.

The 15-inch Legion Y740 comes at a starting price of Rs. 1,29,990 while the 15-inch Y540 starts at Rs. 69,990.

Lenovo slid through a few other gaming desktops (T730 &T530), M500 RGB gaming mouse, K500 RGB mechanical keyboard and 2 stereo gaming headsets (H500 & H300).
