In a breakthrough decision, telecom giant Airtel has decided to do away with the charges incurred on incoming calls on national roaming.

The change will take place with effect from 1st April, wherein Airtel users can freely take calls anywhere in the country without inviting charges or opting for special packs.  There won’t be any extra charges for outgoing calls either.

The company is not the first one to do so. It’s fierce rival Vodafone already acquiesced last year post Reliance Jio arrival.

This announcement follows the launch of various affordable International roaming packs by the company which came with varying validity (1 day, week, month) as well as benefits (free incoming calls/SMS, calling minutes).

Along with national users, International users (without any of the said roaming packs) too seem to be in for a good time.

Airtel has decided on an automatic adjustment system that will avoid excessive bill charges if in case a consumer doesn’t opt for one of its subsidized data or calling packs for a particular country. Which means that whenever a user’s billings reach the price of a one day pack in the country, instead of keeping the meter running, Airtel will switch the user to a daily pack automatically to avoid inflated bills.

At Airtel, we are changing the international roaming paradigm, which will allow our customers to take their number to every corner of the world. As an industry, operators across the world must collaborate to remove the cost barrier to roaming and offer customers the convenience of staying connected without the fear of exorbitant bill charges.
