Jio and Saavn are currently two leading music streaming apps in the country. Earlier this year, Saavn has purchased Reliance owned JioMusic to create a single large entity JioSaavn. Jio music was launched as a part of the ecosystem of Jio apps that were included in the Jio Prime membership.

The integrated entity JioSaavn has a combined valuation of over $1Billion USD with the JioMusic’s implied valuation standing at $670 million. Reliance has also agreed to invest $100 million into the growth and expansion of the new entity. Additionally, Reliance has also purchased partial stakes in JioSaavn for $104 from the existing shareholders of Saavn. The top management of Saavn is going to continue their leadership positions in this new combined entity. The deal aims at combining the expertise of Saavn with the connectivity and Digital ecosystem of Jio.

JioSaavn – Jio users

Jio users had access to unlimited ad-free music with JioMusic but look like that is not going to be the case with JioSaavn. Saavn had a paid subscription for downloading music and streaming ad-free content and that is going to translate to this new integrated JioSaavn. Saavn customer support has already clarified to this regard stating that the existing JioMusic users will get three months of SaavnPro subscription with JioSaavn but they will have to renew their subscription later if they wish to continue accessing ad-free music. The free version will not have the option to download the music tracks also.

Another interesting feature of JioMusic, JioTunes will also eventually find its way to JioSaavn but it is not clear as of now whether that will be a part of the free membership or the Pro subscription. One respite, however, is that the new app will have a much-refined UI compared to the Jio Music app so the user experience is ought to improve with JioSaavn for Jio users.
